A local gun shop has what I think I remember the guy described as a Yugo M44 rifle. He said it is new, unissued. It is supposed to be based on a '98 Mauser action, and comes with a bayonet, cleaning kit, etc.
I asked him if it was the same as what I had seen advertised in the gun mags and he said it is.
He said if I wanted something to shoot as well as to collect this was a good deal, as it is basically a new rifle.
Comments?
Jim
edited to add that he said these rifles were supposed to be issued to the German troops near the end of WWII but never were issued.
edited again to say it may have been model M48, not M44.

Well, it could have been any of the numbers you mentioned. I just picked up a Yugo M-48A for $90.00 from CDNN and a Bosnian M-48 for $70.00 from Century. They are really nice bolt action mausers. They are based on the 98 but upgraded to handle the hotter ammo that came along later. The '48s were accepted for use by the military in 1948, post WWII and most were never really issued. The 48A that I got from CDNN has all parts matching serial #s including the Firing Pin and it appears, although they rated it as only good-very good condition it appears to be unissued.

here's a picture.

Sig, I looked at the CDNN site and didn't find any rifles for sale, only pars.
Am I looking in the wrong place?

Download the catalog, you need adobe acrobat to view it. The firearms are not listed on the website but are listed in the adobe acrobat catalog.

That's the one thing I didn't do.
Thanks,

44 is Chech and is characteristic by a straight bolt and shorter than the M48.  Still an excellent rifle.  M48 is Yugo exact copy of K98.  Both will have a M(number) on the barrel base.  The M48 has the Yugo crest.

Love my Mauser!!!!!!!!

Sig,
You sure that's not my M48 in that pic?  She looks good.

Bought mine in the kit with all the goodies, bayonet, cleaning kit, and sling. She was new still in the cosmo.  Most acurate rifle I have and for a fraction of the cost of others.  It's the best shooting investment you will ever make and most definately the finest bolt action rifle ever made.  Even if the corrosive ammo is a pain to clean.

Yugo M48's are the best value for Mauser rifles going today...........that is, you can buy an example in excellent condition for very little money.  The trouble is, they don't have alot of history, they were manufactured and then put into storage.

German K98k's are getting a little pricey lately.  I would buy a Russian captured one before they are gone.  I also like the Czech VZ24's.

I have a few Mauser rifles.
