The army hasn't actually complete a weapon swap program since the M16 was adopted. All they did was scale it down to the M4 or the Mk18, or scale it up slightly for the Mk12. Everything else they've done has just been wasting money. Once NATO became a thing, the military lost the balls required to completely switch weapons systems. "But but but... IT WON'T BE NATO COMPATIBLE!!!" Who gives a shit? NATO is almost as useless as the UN. They can't even be bothered to show up to joint exercises with real rifles. So that's another transitional handguard. I was calling it a Vegacy for awhile (half Virtus, half legacy), but I decided that's too gay. Without counting KeyMod slots, I think that's an 11.5" barrel.

I think some individual rails went out to Lipseys about the same time, which would explain any you were to find individually.
