I've contemplated turning down my barrel for a lighter profile ... I bet I could shave off 1lb or so ... these Spear barrels are pretty thick! But then the role of the rifle will change as well ... right now ... its a great general purpose rifle in 308 with a 2-12x44 + a piggy back. Now people might see the XM7/M7 program as a failed platform ... but I really disagree ... for the Army to have a single source supplier and the ability to be this adaptable is a huge win for them ... the family of weapons that will come to be used in this platform is great ... @coregon ... when are we going to see updated handguards being available to the civi market? |

 The US Army's New Rifle Just Got An Upgrade; The M7A1 SPEAR I still don't want the 277/6.8x51 but I do love the idea of that package. Aesthetically speaking, it's absolutely peak! I do wish I had maybe gotten the 13" over the 16" 7.62x51. Not enough to pay almost $2k for the barrel/rail when you can find whole SPEAR's for $2500~2800 used. I just don't see the SPEAR as a DMR and that is the only thing I can think to do with a 16" variant. |

Just a heads up, the spring that keeps the side charging handle flat against the receiver is garbage. The thing just snapped yesterday for no reason. Removed it and during inspection I could snap another piece of the spring just by moving it between my fingers. Is there any good soul that could provide me the exact measures of theirs so I can buy a replacement? |

https://imgur.com/a/FNfupz7 That’s a torsion spring, had some around but the size or angle didn’t fit properly so the charging handle is still sloppy. If I have to send the whole upper receiver, I rather buy some replacement springs and fix it by myself. Way too expensive to send gun parts from Europe. What’s weird is the material, the spring was ripping apart on its own, just by pulling the lever, and lost another chunk even when I had it between my fingers. |

ETA: cleaned it this morning to take it back out and see if that solved anything. What are the barrel screws supposed to be torqued to? 60 in-lbs? 40 in-lbs? I want to check those too. I didn't want to waste a bunch of ammo just sending it downrange to function check, but it appears the flow through design on the suppressed setting with this ammo will work for me. That's a relief. |

M7A1 kit looks nice! If I am being honest, its what they should adopt ... nice to hear, I believe over 35K rifles are fielded already ... I do hope they release a 10" - 308 barrel for us peasants ... but that would require a new op rod too ... |

Attached File Form 4 for my 6.8x51 Spear SBR came back yesterday and I picked it up today. Can was approved last week and I already had a Leupold Mark 4HD 1-4.5 HPR-1 and ring mount DPP put together for it, so went straight from the shop to the range, mounted the scope, and zeroed it with the 135gr FMJ loads. Lancer mag just for show, I used the factory mag. My upper has the forward assist delete and the handguard looks slightly different from some other 13s I see online. Set up an SR-1 target at 100 yards, from an improvised rest. 3 shots to get dialed in, three shot group in red, then minor adjustments and three shot group in blue Attached File Fresh SR-1 and fresh hi-vis target for the 10 ring and the last 11 rounds from the box. Not super happy with my group but I was losing daylight and temperatures fast and had already shot a practice highpower match in the morning and then driven 3 hours round-trip to pick up the rifle. I would trust Lancer and their 6.8 mag for sure! MCX or MR556 compatible triggers will work as is ... unless you delete the firing pin latch ... I've ran a MCX Virtus without the latch and Geissele SSA-E without issues ... I have NOT changed out the Spear's trigger ... mine feels really good now with some rounds through it so much so that I bought a Match Duo to put into my MCX Virtus so it I have matching trigger feels between both of them. I believe Wilson Combat TTU will work too ... I ran that in my M27 IAR clone for a while ... the hammer has to have a relatively full profile to activety the safety latch ... also ... full power spring ... I hope Lancer releases a carbon fiber handguard for this platform ... man that would be solid! |

Just made a quick attempt and replaced my Warcomp today with a standard A2 FH. I was stunned by the amount of recoil this thing has, as it’s been a while since I tried it with the stock muzzle device. Immediately went back to the Warcomp. Looking forward to put my hands on an adjustable gas valve, that should help tame it down a little bit too. |

Mine shoots soooo smooth with a jetted gas plug … as smooth if not smoother than a SCAR … Sig is a FOOL if they don’t adopt a vented plug on the Spears. |

I actually decided to get one in .308 as a Christmas gift. I got everyone else gifts and still had a pretty good chunk of cash left and got this lol. Currently have the older elcan on it, but it is very accurate. I bought a TA47-C ACOG to put it on there. I'm hoping it looks slick with the TA47 acog on it based on some of the pictures I've seen of it. I don't think I want a 4x acog though because of the insane recoil. |

I wouldn't run a short eye relief optic either ... right now ... I am running a Browe BTO ... but its a vented gun so no hardly any recoil

Other than being so fucking heavy, I like the rifle. |

Haven't posted in a minute, figured I'd say hi :) rolled the dice on a pricey trip to SHOT Show and got some great exposure, I'm hoping my operation explodes in a good way this year. Speaking of which, if there are any dealers lurking in here, please hit me up, I am aggressively seeking expansion. Regarding the subject at hand: FINALLY happy with the indexing lug. Four positions, easy to rotate by hand. Very excited about that because now I can leave that element tf alone. As far as performance, funny enough still chasing unsuppressed (stupid) reliability. I managed to get two different types of ammo (out of five) to lock back on the empty mag the other day with my newest prototypes. It was also 8ºF outside. That could've had something to do with it, idk. I made some changes that I'm very confident about and paid extra for a rush order on a new model. It's gotta be about done. I know I'm behind on my initial timeline but I think we're in the home stretch here. I wanna get it out as bad as you guys because frankly I'm tired of paying for prototypes, test ammo, and silencers that I don't need or want, and the suppressed performance is actually incredible :) My SPEAR is the softest shooting 308 I've ever fired, and it doesn't matter if it's a HUX, a CGS, an OCL, or even a Diligent can on there, it's all just insanely pleasant. The moment I get a good range day and give myself TBI getting lock-back after lock-back unsuppressed, I will be doing a preorder on these while the CNC fixture is made for the cleanup operation. Please make sure you're signed up on my newsletter list to be notified, I don't come the forum as often as other platforms. Oh, also, I think I was still awaiting EAR/ITAR classification when I last posted. I have been granted EAR classification! What I've noticed playing around with mine is once you dial in your vent size to your can ... and switch back to unsuppressed ... its venting too much and does not give me LRBHO function ... with my OEM plug, I did find that I can run a 1.15 jet and have both functions work ... but suppressed mode as still overgassed ... 1.35 jet got me perfectly dialed in with my can ... but then lost LRBHO function in unsuppressed mode ... |

So my SPEAR has just been sitting around. |

Hey guys! I'm finally calling it done! The OMEGA Valve system has always been and continues to be a solution for optimizing suppressed weapon systems. That being said, I have finally achieved consistent unsuppressed cycling in all of my test ammo in Position 4 with the solid screw plugging the vent orifice. Not necessarily consistent LRBHO, but consistent cycling. 50% of my test ammo did achieve LRBHO. That being said, attaching the CGS Helios QD via direct thread with the vented end cap (which has very, very low back pressure) is enough to push it over the edge and get consistent LRBHO. I'm good with that. I'm also confident that the hybrid case 308 ammo that they're putting out will be enough for LRBHO unsuppressed. If you are shooting hybrid case full-pressure ammo, you're going to want to vent this device, perhaps with a 1.00~ jet screw. With Federal 149gr range ammo and the Enticer L, I landed on Position 1 with the solid screw, with the potential for a little venting with a small jet I think. Just to give you an idea of the range here. I MAY at some point make a different version more optimized for that ammunition, but it's not on my radar right now, I want to get this design out there. I'm launching a preorder for my new 5.56 valves tomorrow. I will open up a preorder period for these around the same time. Probably for like a week at a reduced price before closing the preorder period and bumping it to MSRP. Thank you all for your patience, I'm sorry it took so much longer than anticipated. |
