I'm one of those guys who is willing to drop a downpayment and wait a long time, as long as the timeline is accurate.  By the looks of the Spear, it should nearly be production ready.  We've seen it now for a year as the Spear, and it's been around since 2015.

What I do wonder is what the NGSW-R contracts would do to civilian production.

These are in the price list.

Anything ending in "-R2" is cut for an optic, but doesnt include an optic.  There are some exceptions to this (365XL-9-BXR3, for example - its cut, but doesnt have the nomenclature OR 320F-9-M17-MS is obviously cut for an optic, but also doesn't have the nomenclature).

Anything ending in "-RXP" is cut for an optic AND includes the optic.  There are some exceptions to this one, as well (365XL-9-BXR3-RXZ, has the "-RXZ" because its a RomeoZero).

Pistols that are cut for an optic, but no optic are included:
320F-9-M17-MS
320F-9-M17
320XF-9-BXR3-R2
320XF-9-VTAC-R2

Totally off topic here, but...

coregon - would you happen to know when the P320 XCompact grip module in SMALL is going to be available? I can't find it for sale ANYWHERE... I just picked up one and I'd like to switch out to the "small" frame...

Way more interested in Large modules for the X compact. You know for non toddler sized hands lol. All jokes aside the x compact has a smaller profile than the other atleast to me. Definitely interested in knowing about large size modules but to get back on topic will they be offering some of the SPEAR accessories like the buttstock and rail?

Yeah there has been alot of interest.  This display is on the wall and shares space with the MG-338 and MG-68, so its all getting a ton of attention.

I've been in meetings all day (and will tomorrow, too) and haven't heard any feedback from any of my guys working the floor.

I am looking to dump my Scar 17,  The Spear in 277 Fury seem incredibly interesting to me.  I wonder how the 277 is going to be for reloading?  It will be interesting to see what powders can replicate their pressure/velocity numbers.  I wonder what what price range these are going to fall into.

I have to say,  shot show this year appears to be kind of cool, no game changers, but a good bit of stuff that might be worth upgrading into.

Despite their history of support/qc issues,  I have to say, I am pretty impressed where Sig is today. I can absolutely say that out of the higher tier companies that do military contracts.  I am most interested in the stuff the Sig is putting out.

I would love to get a 14.5 inch SR25 upper in 6.5cm from knights but considering the contract mod for the K110 contract,  we wont sniff those until 2023 most likely,  The Scar 17 is stuck in 2008, the Mk20, is the heaviest gun in class by a full 1lb.

Good job sig, keep up the good work

[Last Edit: joglee] [#23]
I hear the Sig was the most liked in the initial phases of the trial by those testing them.

Likely due to being the most production ready rifle and keeping a near parity to the AR design in controls.

Sig actually built a gun for the end user. It's also the lightest entrant, though I hear it's ammo is 10% heavier than Textrons.

SIG SAUER MG-338 Machine Gun, MG-6.8, MCX-SPEAR Next Gen Weapons System - ShotShow2020

Milspec Monkey at the Sig booth.

I wonder, how does Sig mitigate the recoil of such a powerful cartridge in the MCX platform? Their MG-68 and MG-338 have novel recoil mitigation technology. But the MCX is in many ways just the same gun we know and love today.

With my hand on a bible I swear when the Spear is open to order, I'm ordering 2. I also want a Spear Rattler, who wouldn't love a 7.62 with a 5.5" barrel. Also, it needs to take a RDIAS, just sayin'.

I've seen it shot. They've got something there because it was far tamer than I ever expected.

I think the best thing Sig though is def that new case design. I have a feeling no matter what Sig will be a winner if that can be scaled to 5.56, 7.62, .338, etc.

It scales to anything and is 20%+ lighter than what it’s replacing.

I mean who would want a 12.5" barrel that sends a 155gr bullet at 2500 fps with 2,100 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. It outperforms an 18" .308 out to 300 yards.

Or who would want a +300gr expanding subsonic round that has 700 ft-lbs of muzzle energy and maintains 550 ft-lbs to 600 yards?

Yeah that sounds real *gross* to me.

Thanks.

Like other trials to replace the M16 that failed something always comes from it. Maybe this will be the one, which I'm rooting for Sig if that's the case.

However I can easily see Sig getting the case design adopted and scaled to all current calibers in use. The civilian market I'm sure would love a 20% lighter cartridge.

Some folks like to have an effective subsonic round for various purposes when shooting suppressed. I suppose they could make the gas block have a position for .277 subsonic, but the engineering there may not be feasible.

I assume you don't shoot suppressed and short barrels then?

Looking online at .277 caliber projectiles, I see 85gr to 160gr.  160gr won't give you a subsonic round with much performance. The 8.6 Creedmoor will. If you want to hunt, you go with the supersonics round throwing 155gr at 2500 fps. If you want quiet subsonic rounds you go with a +300gr putting out 700 ft-lbs of energy. And this is all out of a 12.5' barrel. Not a 16"/18"/20". So very compact, lightweight and easy to carry in the woods when hunting.

Yeah just depends what you want. The 8.6 Creedmoor has been optimised for short barrels. Just like .300 BLK. Just that the 8.6 Creedmoor is the bigger brother. That's why it's an interesting round.

Similar, but I'm not sure about that. But I'm not referring to the stock itself, but the folding buffer tube. I can't tell if it's proprietary, since it's slab-sided, or if it can be used with any M4 stock.

If it can be used with any M4 stock, then that is hands down the perfect stock adapter for the MCX; ten times better than the overly long abortion they call a buffer tube knuckle.

The adapter itself looks like a normal M4 buffer tube with the sides flattened like you said.
