Out of curiosity, why’d you go with the CRS over the PRS? Trying to make the same decision.

Not who your asking but I'm going with a CRS on my EC. Less weight and it keep's it more like a carbine. If you want more suppression then I'd say the PRS.

This is the reason I went with the CRS - wanted suppression but keep it more carbine’ish

Hey I’ll take anyone’s input. I guess that’s the age old question about suppressors; weight/ length vs. suppression. Anyone know how much quieter the PRS is over the CRS?

My take with supersonic rifle rounds and suppressors now is take the sound penalty with savings in weight and length. You should be wearing ear pro when shooting supersonic 5.56/7.62 so why not have it be a little lighter and shorter as the sound won't be as evident under muffs.

I personally would recommend the CRS. It's a great suppressor and it's a good size for a lot of dual role SR25 applications.

Found these numbers in an old thread. Apparently straight from the man Jack himself.

PRS 142db   20.8 oz   9.24"
QDC ???
CRS 148db  15.8 oz   6.52"
CQB 156db

So basically 6db, 5oz and 2.75". They say 140db is "hearing safe" so the PRS is almost there. I know that is completely subjective but it’s something. My AEM5 is the only can I’ve shot that doesn’t ring my ears and I thought I read somewhere that is 136db. Of course this 5.56.

I went with the CRS purely on size.  I was willing to sacrifice a little bit of sound for size.

Anyone know the military history / designation, anything about the SR25 Match?   I’ve read it was deployed to Somalia (around that time).

I’ve seen pictures of it suppressed.   Where does it fall in with the Mk11 and it’s cousins?

This rifle is the one with the 24 inch unthreaded barrel, threaded gas block.

The Knight's SR25 in its original 24" barrel mode made its bones in Somalia back then. After action reports by these special operators wanted it shortened to 20" to reduce its overall length with suppressor attached. This we did.
This led to what we called the Special LW Match. That led to the Mk11 format. That led to the M110. By the Mk11 Mod 0 time we had shown enough other companies how to do it, the knockoffs began to proliferate. Our inability to meet our military demands also prevented us from being able to adequately address the commercial side which the knockoffs capitalized on. Same thin happened with the free float RAS's practically to a "T" except they made it a bit oval in cross section...highly imaginative...

@coldblue

Thanks for information, for sure.   For a little clarification.

Did the SR25s with the 24 inch barrel in Somalia have a specific scope?  Did the rifle have a specific military designation?  Example, if I clone it, did it have a designation?

Leading to the Special LW Match.  What did the LW stand for?  Just curious.  Those LW rifles had a 20 inch barrel and gas block attached suppressor?  Is that correct?

Anything else you can share about that specific platform?

I’m going to buy another SR25 Match.  I simply like the extended barrel and the history.  The current models are amazing as well, but I like the Match versions more.  To each their own, right?

I recall a Leupold 10x target scope. I think with tall target turrets.

Leading to the Special LW Match. What did the LW stand for? Just curious.
Light Weight. Only because it was lighter than the 24-inch match rifle. It was still pretty heavy.

Those LW rifles had a 20 inch barrel and gas block attached suppressor? Is that correct?
Yes. Precursors to the Mk11Mod0 format and sound suppressor interface. Early, early ones retained the match's round fiberglass forend, then someone asked for little Picatinny rail sections to be added to the end of the forend. I think you can guess that we did next, seeing how we were making the M4 RIS's at the time...
KAC still make the little Picatinny sections. They are part of the StandAlone Buttstock assembly. I mean if someone wanted to replicate something...just saying...

Anything else you can share about that specific platform?

It's the standalone M203 adapter. So if you wanted to take the M203 off a mounted rifle, you could mount it to this device and have a dedicated M203 launcher.

I picked up another SR25 Match, and the gas block was changed out (so it appears).

No threaded gas block or gate latch gas block, so no way to attach a suppressor.

Gah.  Anyone know where I can buy a threaded gas block?

It's a good deal, but just know if your barrel is already drilled for a gas block, the chances of those lining up are slim.

This is my first post and am excited to announce that I found myself an old school SR-25 Match 24" - pre-ban or what not I do not know.  Its mint condition and apparently only had 2 magazines worth of ammo fired through it.

Any idea how to tell the year of manufacture or is it based on the Serial Number?
It has the old school Waffle type magazines

I am already compiling myself a list of the parts that I "think">??? I want to convert - but as each day goes on I have been changing my thoughts!

I’d like to know.  Either I build a complete upper to mimic a MK11 Mod 0, or have my upper modified.

Mimic meaning exactly that.  I’m not looking for a 100% accurate clone.

GB or keep an eye out in the EE. Last I knew Geno had a couple, not sure if he sold them or not. I know he has a couple of complete uppers for sale.
There’s also a couple front sights, a set of rings and 2 complete kit rifles listed too atm for anyone with pockets deep enough.

Excellent that helps.  I'd done a deep dive into my safe and storage to make sure that I have every "tactical" rifle that I can ready to go if needed.  As part of that I identified that I'm not where I want to be with my .308 semi-auto inventory and I kick myself for not working on this more in the past few years.  I'm going to address a lot of that building out a AR10 16" "carbine" with available parts, I've been focused on building my own MK11 Mod 0 clone or near clone that I didn't consider buying very much (I figured they were all gone or just insanely priced), but the deeper I've dived into the build you own approach I didn't realize how hard it is to find the critical parts and all that goes into building a clone or "close enough".  Good news is I have many key parts (KAC rail & gas block), and non-KAC (AP upper/lower receivers, A2 stock, AP BCG, LPK)...but finding a barrel, along with muzzle device/suppressor plans & considerations as well as the critical mounting of the gas block/barrel gets me wondering if purchasing at least an upper wouldn't be the better plan for now or look for a full rifle (might need to sell a kid or something!).

Thought this would be a good thread to ask since relating to BR’s.

@ColdBlue regarding the OG photo attached below, can the Mk11 Mod 0 suppressor actually mate with the 16-inch BR’s? Or is the suppressor on the table a specific design similar to the limited run of EM carbine suppressors?

That secondary collar (nut) is removable, by pressing in the spring loaded detent and rotating the nut counter-clockwise. If it does not loosen easily, like with a strap wrench, I would recommend making a spanner that engages the cut-outs in the same manner as an M16 barrel nut wrench.

If memory serves me, that was a specially designed suppressor for that barrel length. Remembering that inside a Mk11 type suppressor is a close tolerance surface that interfaces with a close tolerance surface at the end of the barrel, or in this case the muzzle device, that would be the case here. I mean have you ever noticed that the very end of a Mk11Mod0 barrel is a different shade of black than the moly-coat on the rest of the barrel...?
