I don't like the amount of blowback I'm getting with my TiRant 9 on my pistol. Can I take the first 2 baffles out and replace them with a spacer to create a larger body chamber, when I'm using it on my pistol, or is this illegal. |

I thought the blast baffle was stainless steel on those. I wouldn't want to run without that. |

Before you do anything, try going to a heavier recoil spring on your pistol. It can make a big difference in the amount of blowback you experience. |

As long as the removed parts are original for the registered suppressor, how would it be any different than carrying some or all the baffles in one pocket, and the tube in the other pocket?
Now, making a spacer to replace the missing baffles (which should be about the same as a fixed spacer for a piston if common sense was applied -a big if), and installing that in the tube -ask your NFA expert lawyer first. |

Legal grey area here. Do you really want to be the legal Guinea pig? Blast shields, mounts and, end caps are worth looking into for past legal concerns and ways some manufacturers seem to have gotten around past restrictions. I'm not a lawyer either ... but, suppressor parts in the possession of a non-SOT manufacturer doesn't sound good if you get questioned by an LEO. |

So, question, just to be Devil's Advocate: When I put my DA Ghost-45M into "short" configuration, and I have a piece of threaded tube, with baffles inside it, left over, how is that any different? |

I think the only difference is that an SOT manufacturer provided you all those parts; OP is talking about making a suppressor part that was not made by the SOT that made the suppressor. If OP finds a short piece of pipe that he doesn't modify in any way, that happens to fit, might not be an issue. If he modifies the pipe to fit, then BATFE might claim he's manufactured a suppressor part w/o paying tax. Safest thing might be to pay the tax & engrave the part - if you've paid the tax, they can't really fault you for putting one suppressor inside another suppressor. |

Probably not much different. However, just because ATF decides modular cans are okay today doesn't mean they'll change their minds and declare them all illegal tomorrow. They have done it before. (Akins Accelerator, for example). |

The manufacturer pays a tax in order to make those parts. And all parts silencer related. Unless the OP is an 07/02 he would be making a part that goes inside a silencer. Which is a no-go. He's not asking about making a F1 can here either. |

If you're out shooting a legally-registered suppressor, and dude's patting you down to see if you got baffles in your pocket, or looking through your range bag, there's bigger problems anyways. |
