Any one know where I could get my hands on one of the old style lee hand primers, specifically the small primer tray and cover? I have the new style Lee where it raises the primer up but I can't stand it (uncomfortable), and it is way slower. I also have an RCBS (with the individual shell holder) and do not care for it either. It is just as slow and the new LEE, less smooth than the LEEs, the stupid ram pin falls out if it tips too much, and it tends to dimple my primers (the flat side of the ram is up). Anyone that knows where I could get the old style, it would be greatly appreciated.

Wish I could help, you should watch EE, eBay and Gunbroker for used one. I'm not having the issues you are with new hand primer. It does require technique different from old hand primer.

Almost sounds as if your hand priming brass with mil crimp.

The only mill brass I've used had the crimp removed. My major issue with the new Lee is that if you tip it to much the primers fall out.

Primers are falling out ?

I get the visual, it don't work that way. Rather than suggest what your doing wrong. When I get a chance towards weekend will post some pictures of correct method.

If a kind person with quick, workable method would like to post link or pictures it would be awesome if you beat me to the post.

I've been using the Lee handprimers, both the old style and the newer style for quite a few years, and agree that the newer style which raises the primer out of the tray can be a pain if you happen to tip it or bump it.  .. . . . . anyway . . . I solved the problem because I now use a new hand primer that I really like,  It is the new RCBS universal hand primer which doesn't use shell holders.  It has spring controlled jaws that accept any size cartridge.  You just have to change the little press rod and feeder track for large or small primers, and the rod screws in so it won't fall out.  It is also a little larger and much more confortable to use.  I highly recommend it . . . .

Lamale, where in Wisconsin are you?  The linkage in my Lee Autoprime has worn out, and I was getting ready to just discard the whole thing.  Let me know if you want it, or the parts from it.

Interestingly, I ordered an RCBS old-style (shell holder) handprimer to replace it.  Hope that works out better than some of you had experiences with.
