I have a 9mm AR-15 with a 9.5" Tros barrel  that I usually feed my reloads which are 115 FMJ  behind 4.8 AA#2 powder.  I've been shooting this load for years in all my 9mms and it's always been a very clean burning load.

I shot my 9mm AR with a YHM Wraith for the first time today and I was very pleased with the sound reduction but when I got home and cleaned my rifle, I could not believe how much crud there was.  I know the 9 is a blow back but I have fired 300 of these same rounds through this rifle without the can and there was 1/10 the amount of dirt and unburnt powder to clean out

I really have two questions.  Is this normal to have so much accumulated crud when using a can and is there a better load that runs cleaner.

Thanks in advance,

Any can will increase the amount of funk that accumulates in the gun, the 9mm AR is worse than most.  It is just the price oyu pay for having so much fun.

FYI,

After some research, I loaded up some subsonic 147gr using TightGroup powder instead of my normal AA#2 and after shooting 200 rounds,  my lower was clean as could be.  No unburnt powder or gunky residue.

Problem solved.

You also might consider VihtaVuori powder, such as N320 or N330. The VV powders burn far cleaner than the Accurate Arms powders.
