I was in a bit of a rush as of late to get a safe that's small & light enough to be moving around some residences where I'm transitorily residing, and I found this number over at Tractor Supply. Was instantly drawn to it because of its fire rating, sheer weight, and capacity to store just what I needed while keeping it on the smaller end of 'portable' safes (insofar as whatever meaning portability holds with respect to safes). Problem is, I don't know that Winchester ever made this small of a safe, and I couldn't find it on their website. Is that a legit safe and not just some rebranded imported cabinetry junk? Am concerned that while budgetarily favorable, it might not be legitimate. |

Just got this unit, judging by the product label sticker on it it looks to me as if this was a model produced especially for the TSCo, explaining why I haven't seen it anywhere else. Next thing that comes close at this size & price point would have been Sports Afield's 30 gun safe when it was on special at Academy, but alas that's neither here nor there anymore. I also read that some people have mixed opinions about Sports Afield but IMHO, these safes seem to be produced by only one of a few assemblers, and branded for each company from the same origin. Only time will tell if it's sturdy, but mine certainly looks that way. Has some finicking going on though with the elock combo setup. |

The front door seems to be made out of 6 or 8 gauge steel though, since it has to be mostly hollow to accomodate the front locking mechanism. However, I should point out that that safe variant was made by what looks to be a subsidiary or partner of Winchester Safes, and as such its e-lock is different from most of their other safes. While that's supposed to be good because Winchester Safes offers backdoor combinations if you find yourself locked out like I did, it also says something about the quality of the e-lock. I believe mine in particular was tampered with as a store demo model, because the familiar old factory 1-2-3-4-5-6 combination did not work on mine... |
