How often do you need to debur the primer pocket and clean it?  How can you tell that the primer pocket needs worked on?  Thanks for the help.

I clean the primer pocket on every case reloaded.  Less debris, cleaner ignition, primer seating ease, etc...
I think its a small step that you might as well do.
Once you've swagged or uniformed the pocket, you shouldn't have to do it again.

Depends what you're using the brass for.  If its for plinking, I wouldn't bother.  If you're trying to shoot long range matches or something, then it might be worth the effort.

I clean my primer pockets on .44 magnum every time, as they seem to get pretty sooty. .223 maybe every other time just to easy primer seating.

If you want to use the ammunition for precision shooting, go ahead, anything that makes the cases more uniform is an improvement.  Even if it doesn't show up on paper it's an improvement if you believe it helps.

For general purpose dirt clod and can busting, don't bother.

Exactly.

Although I'm not a dirt shooter, I've never messed with a primer pocket at all.  I get pretty respectable accuracy out of my bulk loads.

only need to deburr once. I clean the pockets on my match loads after every firing. Plinking loads never get a deburr or cleaning
