So I have a transferable Jap Type 99 and happened to have this bayo laying around from things my grandfather had. I decided I love the ridiculousness of a bayo on an LMG so I dug it out. So first things first, I am not worried about hurting its value but the Type 99 looks new as it has been refinished. The bayo has been stored in an ammo can and oiled up for years. How do you think is the best way to go about cleaning her up to kind of match the type 99? Attached File Attached File Attached File |
How handy are you?![]() WW1 - Restoration of bayonet, turning a rusty relic into a piece of history |
Bro.. it's simple, just don't be a dick.

I’m pretty handy but that’s not the look I wanted. So I ended up using some 0000 steel wool, Hoppes, REM Oil and a gray scotch bright pad. Overall I’m happy with the results in that it kept some patina but much cleaner and matches the gun well.
