| Hi guys, I essentially know nothing about safes. I don't know where sells them at good prices or what are the good brands. I wish I could drop 3-5k on a really sweet safe, but I can't. I'd like to get the biggest safe possible for my money. My budget is in the 1200-1800 range. Any ideas, brands, sites etc would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance! |

Do yourself a favor and read this thread. You will learn a lot about safe design and construction that will help you understand not only what level of security you need for yourself, but also the types of safe that can meet that standard.
Understanding the product you are buying and the nature of the business will help you understand exactly what you are paying for. A 1200-1800 budget can only get you so much. What is the purpose of the safe? Do you want fire protection or burglary protection or both? If neither is a factor, then I would find a reputable manufacturer and ask him to give you the most safe for your max budget. That said, if you are concerned about neither, then why are you buying a safe to begin with? There are different levels of burglary and fire protection, and you can pay a little for neither to a lot for both. |
| I spent forever debating and comparing safes... I would go with either Liberty or AmSec. In the end I went with the Liberty Lincoln 35. White with black chrome hardware. Dial lock. Overall I am happy with it. In the end, my safe didn't end up where I wanted it to go- had I known where the safe would ultimately be, I could have gone bigger. I say spend a lot more time thinking and considering a location and an alternate. I was so dead-set on where I wanted it, when it wasn't possible I didn't know where else to put it. Don't know if/when I will get another safe, but I do wish I had thought of 2-3 places that would work so I could be "prepared" |

FWIW I went with a Browning Silver.
Browning Silver Slightly outside of your price range but a great safe. They also have a few cheaper models that are worth looking into, especially if you have a BPS near you. Even their other bronze, sporter and select offer some very nice safety and convenience features. Good luck finding the right one for you! |

Here are some links to a few American made safes that are priced in the higher end of your budget.
This is a Sturdy. The price includes shipping and you'll get a thicker body and door with this model. On the downside, this model at this price doesn't have any sort of fire protection. If that's important to you, you will probably have to look for something else. Sturdy's fire liner is going to raise the price out of your budget in anything except their smallest model. http://www.sturdysafe.com/products/model-3224 Here's a Ft Knox M2. This is going to have a thick body and door similar to the Sturdy but you'll get some fire lining with this safe. Note the size difference between this and the Sturdy. Shipping will be an additional expense unless you can find this model locally. http://www.westcoastsafes.com/m2-6026-gun-safe-p-1000271.html Here's a Browning. Note the decent size but you'll step down to an 1/8" body and thin inner door plate. On the up side, Browning's interior is fantastic. http://www.gunsafes.com/Browning-HR26F-Gun-Safe-Hunter-Series-11-29-Gun-Safe-Multiple-Colors.html And here's a lower-end Liberty. Construction will be similar to the Browning above. This is probably the biggest US produced safe you'll find in your budget. http://www.deansafe.com/cosemoco50.html |
| So I really wasn't planning on buying a safe for another 6 months plus. However I found a Liberty Lincoln 35 about 4 hrs away from me for 1500 bucks. The guy said he bought it a year ago and never used it, and is getting ready to move out of the country. I'm thinking about getting it, but am getting gun shy because I was planking on paying off debt with my next bonus. When I was looking at safes I really liked the Lincoln but knew it was over my budget big time. Them when I found this one I feel like it's too good to pass up. |
