I want to take the tube out of my PVS-7's and get more info on them.

Only problem, no idea how to remove the tube. Can one of you please walk me through it and tell me what I have?

Grab hold of the front bell housing and turn it counter clockwise. It will unscrew and behind that sits the tube. The tube will just fall out so be careful. The link below is the tech manual. It will tell you everything you need to know. Post close up pics of the tube top and bottom and we will see if we can tell you what you have.

To save you some time start reading at page 3-18 of the PDF file. It will show you a nice diagram and give you instructions.

Do you hear a slight whine when the scope is powered up ?

It is not a factory tube and was most likely potted by AEO. It is either a MX-10130C or a MX-10130D. I am not sure yet and need more information.

I might add that you need to make sure you screw it back together snuggly. I thought I'd messed things up once  by not getting it tight enough. It didn't work until I did!

Most likely a MX-10130D autogated tube if you hear the whine. Because it is not a factory tube and has no markings other than the tube module serial number I can't tell you much. I can give educated guesses at best.

I was told by the seller it is autogated, just had no idea how to find out without flipping on a light. Didn't want to burn the tube if it wasn't.

Picked them up for $900

I can tell you by the shape of the power supply and contacts it is a ITT module and power supply. If it whines it is gated. 900 bucks is a good deal gated or not. Think you did well !!

There is a test you can do to confirm gated or not. It is much easier to do with a dual battery housing such as yours. Get a new AA battery and pair it with one that is almost dead. By starving the scope of power sometimes you can get the screen to start strobe on and off. It will be like a constant flicker. It won't hurt your tube. You can try this once you get it cleaned and put back together. If it strobes it is gated.

If you hear it whining you can be certain it is gated. DC power supplies are silent.
