| I was encouraged to pick up a Helle knife and watched a few of the YouTube vids showing their manufacturing processes. Seems like they make quality products at reasonable prices. I need an all around woods knife and was eyeing the GT. Anyone have one? |

I had two (lost one--I think it got knocked off the dresser and landed in the trash). The steel is nice. Holds and edge well, and conversely, takes a fair amount of effort to sharpen. I'm not crazy about the Norwegian sheaths and always replaced the factory one with a leather one of my own make--but that's mostly my personal taste. I like a hole at the bottom so it'll drain water and the Norske like that thin belt loop that dangles. But yeah, for the money, they're solid. Good profiles; on the shorter side, and a little thicker than many. Not good for slicing cheese, or filleting fish, but great for general woods/big game use. |

I own an Odel, Eggen, and will soon be purchasing an Algonquin. They are fantastic knives in my opinion. Their laminated steel is great, I haven't had any problems with sharpening mine, they all took a razor sharp edge with relative ease. The outer layers are made of 18/8 stainless (also known as 304). The inner core is a blend specifically made for them and does not conform to any international steel standard. Here are the specs for the inner core:
Carbon: 0.7% Silicone: 0.70% Sulfur: 0.002% Phosphorus: 0.19% Manganese: 0.44% Nickel: 0.28% Chromium: 14% Molybdenum: 0.52% It compares very favorably to both 440 and 12c27 stainless steels. They harden the cores to 59 HRC. Overall its a good steel and the fit and finish of the knives make the price tag worth it in my opinion. |

I've got their Dokka folder in tri-laminate SS and based mostly on its aesthetics, I like it.
Very sharp out of the tube, nice mirrored finish on the blade, very strong lock up and while most pictures show the curly birch scales as being more 'orange' in color, I'd say that they're more tan/woody looking, all creating a smart looking folder in a decent size for bushcraft type duties, or just carrying around in its nice leather snap cover belt holster.
