I want to cerakote my MKE AP5-P (MP5 clone) I'm totally comfortable in doing everything... But I just had a question on the media blasting portion. What all do you guys plug/block off while blasting? Obviously I'll be plugging the barrel and taping off the tri-lug. But what about other places? Cocking tube and stuff. I don't want to get media into places that'll be difficult or impossible to get out (I don't have a ultrasonic cleaner lol) Also would it be a horrible idea if I did it all in C series? Thinking a Fractal stencil kit from Freedom Stencils in this type of color scheme.

I plug barrels and chambers with earplugs a lot You're supposed to degrease prior to blasting, but the cocking tube isn't an area you should be worried about masking. You will however, wish you had an ultrasonic cleaner when you see how caked on soot is around the chamber. I recommend a lot of brake clean and oven cleaner. And a wire brush on a drill With the nature of the geography of roller delayed guns, blast media will find it's way in to all the crevices, especially around the fsb, and where the chamber/barrel go in to the receiver. Once you blast it, take a rubber mallet and whack the shit out of the crown of the barrel while holding it vertically. Then do it again, and again. And then a couple more times. Turn up your compressor, blast a shot of air in it, then do it again. All the little crevices throughout will have blast media in them, take a dental pick and scrape it out. C series is doable, but not advised. Kind of a pain in the ass to stencil with |
