I spied an ad for a 1st version (forward assist), has the rail (no factory optic) and comes w/ (1) 42 rd., (3) 30 rd. mags.  Says 90-100%, looks pretty good. $1550.  Is this a decent deal?

Also, did the 1st series w/ foward assist have certain issues?

You can purchase a new GEN IV with optic rail and (1) 10 round magazine right now on gun broker for $1550.00.

Assuming shipping is equal and FFL is equal on both rifles you would save about $150.00 with the magazines you will get with the GEN I over the GEN IV.

Although you can ship the GEN 1 into MSAR if anything goes wrong and they'll upgrade what needs to be upgraded I'd rather avoid that hassle and just get the GEN IV despite the added cost of having to purchase more magazines for it.  I mean to me the fact that it's A) used and B) the earliest model that has undergone a series of upgrades just doesn't justify the price they're asking even with free magazines. If it was a Generation 3 maybe. If it was a Generation 1 LE with the Pelican case, optic, and all the bells and whistles with it maybe.  Just a Gen 1 with a few mags though that's used to boot with just the optic rail....nope.

There are some upgrades to the later models like stainless carriers.  I'd get the newest one possible.

Get the new one if you are only saving $150.  It would be worth that to me to know the barrel has not been abused.
