A coworker of mine bought a gen 3 scope (ATN Mars) with an ITT pinnacle tube. He got it in, and admittedly it looked pretty nice right when he got it. Three weeks go by, and he brings it in for me to look at today having looked through it before I notice major differnces. The reticle is either non existent or very faint, and I only remember 1 blem when I first looked through the tube. Now there's 3, or 4, and the original one that I remember seems to be bigger.
I told him to contact ATN to see what they can do (which I've heard they're somewhat of a PITA to deal with). I'm really more curious for his, and my sake though. The only thing I could think is A) poor assembly by ATN B) Their cheaper Russian housing isn't adequate. You guys have any idea what the problem(s) could be? |

what calibers and rifles has he used the scope on? if there are spots, it sounds like recoil damage check out the images from these links [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Weapons mounting thin-film tube recoil damage http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_6_18/327263_.html Recoil damage in a milspec Litton OmniVI tube http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=6&f=18&t=362625 if it is recoil damage, there is not much you can do. further use on a rifle would probably lead to continued degradation of the tube. edit - would help if you could provide images from the tube of a flat, white background (in the dark) so the spots can be seen, and outside so we can see how the tube performs atn may offer to replace the tube, if it is recoil damage, for the cost of a replacement tube. |
| the ret should still be there unless the brightness is on another level to what you first saw the scope or the battries are flat - i have had a few mars scopes and am very impressed with the strength and quality - atn dont make these - they are an original russian scope , but better made than russian stuff used to be - send it back if he has still any warranty ( sometimes if you look thru a scope with the cap on then spots are visible due to the pinhole lens effect that will not be seen in normal use ) |

The only gun he's mounted it on is his M4, but he's only shot 13 rounds through it he said. Either way it should be able to hold up to 5.56 recoil. I'll try to get some some pictures through the tube on a white wall. |

The reticle is illuminated I assume. The LED might have failed. As for the spots ? Could be debris. ATN building and quality control has always been a coin toss in my experience. The spots could also be recoil damage to the tube which is not repairable. Most techs won't work on ATN gear. Optics Planet (dealer here) or ATN themselves would be best to diagnose the issue.
I won't touch anything ATN and most folks I know won't mess with it either. Getting parts is the main issue. Quality is another. I dislike ATN and that is well known. My dislike is not without reason though. |
