Went to the dealer,  And the black anodized removable end cap was scratched up.  From opening the can.
It is no longer black, is this a  problem with them?  Remove once and loose finish.

A picture would probably help

Anodizing is very strong in general but some geometry especially 90degree corners don't take the best and that is not something that can be improved without changing the geometry to something with a corner radius and that is not always possible in production parts.  It has something to do with the way electricity moves through the part.  It's not uncommon to loose a little anodizing on the 7mm front cap socket of our checkmates for instance.  It is generally only lost in the material that composes the bore of that hex geometry, however.  It's not generally lost on the flat surface of the front cap.  Obviously to add a radius to the edges would be a separate machining operation adding ~$10-$20 of cost.  People wouldn't want $20 of extra cost for a little potential silvering of the bore of the front cap was my opinion.

Draco  –– If you're willing to drop that back to me, I'd like to take a look at it.   I'll get yours swapped out for a new one.

If the alpines finish is the same as the outback then you may need to refinish it in the future like i had to. The best thing I found was ~Duplicolor~ self etching primer sold by NAPA. Just $6 and adheres to aluminum, doesnt flake and chip like common paints. Only comes in matte green.
