I have a friend looking for a M1 Garand with a certain Ordnance Inspection Seal "EMB"
The stamp appears on the left side of the stock. It will probably be on a Rock Island Armory specimen.
EMB was his Grandfather.

I don't believe Rock Island Armory ever made the M1 rifle.

There were four manufacturers - Springfield Armory, Int. Harvester, Winchester, and H&R. - who made the M1.

I'm not aware that RIA was ever a subcontractor of any of these manufacturers.

I'd guess you are thinking of the M1903 Springfield. RIA manufactured a number of those.

Rock Island never made anything for the M-1. There are stocks out there with an "RA" cartouche that indicates a rebuild at Raritan Arsenal I believe. Try www.jouster.com on the M-1 board for more info.

Rock Island did some R&R'ing of M1s, but they stamped the stock with just a simple "RIA" cartouche vice the crossed cannons and initials.
