| Is it normal to see fixed pattern noise (hexagonal patterning) in Gen 3 tubes in high light situations? I was using an ITT PVS-14 in doors and noticed the hexagonal pattern pretty clearly when I lit up a nearby wall with a Surefire M1. The image through the tube is crystal clear under normal low light or outdoor use with illuminator. Is this normal? |

Fixed-Pattern Noise (FPN)
A faint hexagonal (honeycomb) pattern throughout the image area that most often occurs under high-light conditions. This pattern is inherent in the structure of the microchannel plate and can be seen in virtually all Gen 2 and Gen 3 systems if the light level is high enough.
