Does anyone know if there is a realistic chance of a legal, functioning FRT in the works for the FN M249S? I've read comments that there are people working on them, but haven't heard anymore details than that. I had made up my mind to purchase a Lima 6 upper (and most likely still will), but was thinking how nice a FRT would be on a factory M249. Does anyone know if there are FRT options on the way for the SAW? |

I've noticed on their website they have it listed as in development. I hope they release it soon. That would be a game changer. |

I would assume it's lower on their priority list simply due to the more limited numbers of M249s in consumer hands compared to stuff like PCCs. |

I wonder if there will be any challenges with the M249s that are pre or post recall. I am not the expert in this area. I never sent mine back (actually I have never fired my gun). Everyone that sent it back said the trigger pull is horrible now. I am not sure if an FRT will somehow mitigate that, or would they have to accommodate a pre and post recall M249s in their offerings. Regardless, my credit card is waiting :) |

Regardless, my credit card is waiting :) On the "Production Status" page of AS Designs website they list the M249 FRT as probably being built around the POST recall, currently available design. They explicitly say "Need to verify if pre-recall models are supported". My assumption is there are far more post recall M249Ses in the world than there are pre recall now, and if AS can get this FRT on the market I imagine most folks will be buying post recall guns. And as the owner of a post recall gun, the trigger is very heavy. I've been told the mechanical reason for this is that the new trigger design is literally pushing back on the recoil spring or the stock buffer somehow. So the FRT may be working with this, which might mean the trigger pull will be jarring... but at that point who cares, accuracy is minute of car door at that point. |

4 months since that video dropped. Hope they're making some good progress on it. My credit card and M249S are ready!

I just put a piece of brass in to prevent the bolt from entering the barrel extension and then only need two hands to barrel swap.

I use the karate chop method. I karate chop the charging handle with my right hand, and do all the manipulation with my left. Same in reverse to seat the barrel. Your solution seems to be better |

2 Interesting things to note from that video, I do not see the typical roll pin behind the safety that is on the factory M249S trigger group...   ... but it is obviously a semi auto receiver due to the relief in the trigger pack at the rear takedown pin. Secondly I cannot see his trigger finger moving in the video, even on super slow replay speeds. That tells me this new trigger pack may have found a way to eliminate the gorilla trigger pull the post recall guns have. Or this is just a post sample conversion machine gun. EDIT: For comparison, the trigger group in the AS Designs video clearly still has the roll pin behind the safety:  And you can easily and clearly see the shooter's trigger finger moving with each reset. |

For those who might care, AS Designs dropped an update on their M249S FRT on 4/4: AS Designs Production Status UPDATE (4/4) - Awaiting housing samples. Functional in plastic. Need to refine. They are still actively working on it. |
