Do i have to send my lower off to a "certified" company (Orion) for engraving or is this just a preference for people cause it dosent look like someone pooed on the side of your rifle?

thanks in advance for the answers.

You can have anyone do it. I just used google maps, typed in engraving for my area and started askking local companies if they have ever engraved a firearm. And I found a local company that sounds like they know what they are doing..

Ident Marking did mine and they did a SUPERB job.  I will most definitely be going back to them.

If you have a lower that is already registered as an SBR, assuming that's what you're doing, then I'm pretty sure unless you are going to be there in person while the work's done, you have to send it to someone with an SOT. If it's not yet registered, I believe you can send it to anyone.

IMHO, you can likely save a lot of money going with a local company.

Ident marking wanted $60 plus return shipping (+ my shipping to them) to do it under the trigger guard.

Orion wanted $70+ (I think their prices is somewhere around there) plus shipping both ways

A local laser engraving place charged me $30 so I got it done for less than half of the other places.
