can a barrel that previously had a taper pinned front sight block have the FSB replaced with a new one? I have asked this question before and gotten different answers.
as I understand it, the new FSB would have to be indexed and drilled perfectly to match the existing holes in the barrel. some say it can be done, others not... anyone done it before? what would be involved??? |

Maybe, maybe not. Assuming you are using an undrilled FSB....If the original taper pins were not set too deep ( closer to the bore) you can make the next pin holes just a little deeper. You might also be able to stagger the pins just a bit, and maybe change the center to center distance, since the pin placement is not always exactly the same. There are also oversize taper pins to help you out.
I've done it a number of times with good results. But if you are using a used FSB on a used barrel the odds are against you unless you have a selection of FSBs to choose from. If you have more questions, shoot me an email. |

I have heard that there might be oversize taper pins but got a blank when I asked about them before. I think I'll give my 'smith a call and see what he has to say as he would be the final answer. I'll report back one way or the other. thanks again... |
