Is there really a huge difference between some 60 dollar scope rings and 150+ dollar scope rings?  Doesnt the scope make the most difference and the rings just hold it in place?

Are you going to war with your rifle?  If not then no.

some of the cheaper rings machining is not as tight as the higher end stuff, and can damage your scope. They also take more time to true up than the better rings

YMMV

The only cheap rings I would recommend are the Burris Extreme rings.  They're 6-screw aluminum rings.  I used them for 4 years shooting 50's at FCSA matches on both an ALS and State Arms Shorty.  Never had them move with 50 BMG recoil and heavy NXS 56mm scope.  I did lap them, use rosin in them, and they were carefully torqued.

I wouldn't use any cheaper rings than Buris Extremes and I wouldn't use their LOW rings.  Their low rings have lots of metal removed to fit the cross clamp.

If you want a one-piece ring that is known to work well, the Armalite one-piece rings hold up really well too and are easy to swap between rifles.

I only use Badger rings now, though.  Usually find them at a bargain on Snipershide used.

Yeah I was looking at the Burris Extremes and some nightforce rings.  I'll be mounting a mk4 lr/t for now til I have enough money for a nightforce.  I dont want to be a cheapskate and get 60 dollar rings for a 6000 dollar gun but at the same time I dont want to throw away 200 dollars if 60 will do just as good

I like Badger.  The steel ones.  You can find them for about $150.

I've had the Burris Z rings (approx $30) on my 50 for 10+ years, never had a problem with them.

I'm running the burris xtreme's now.  I got my set for about $45.  They seem stout enough but I haven't run enough rounds through the gun to see if the scope will move.  Before I got the Burris I was using the Armalite 1 piece mount and had no troubles with it at all.

I am eventually going to break down and get a NightForce NSX 5.5x22 for my Barrett M82.  I would like to get a Barrett BORS system for it.  The system only works with Barrett Rings.

How are the Barrett rings?  Does anyone here have them?

They are very good and solid!  Not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for.......

They are about the same price as the Badgers too...   I just thought Barrett rings would look silly on my Armalite rifle.
