Bad timing to be a new FFL.  That's pretty much just the way it is right now.  Get in line, buy what they offer when you get the chance.  It'll slow down at some point.

join the club.  nobody has anything but bolt guns and double barrel shotguns for the most part.  you may get lucky, but you have to be vigilant and willing to pay a little more.  i have been going to LGS and gun shows and looking for good deals on used or consignment guns.  or the EE here is a good place to pick up a deal or 2.

I call davidsons 2 or 3 times a day.  They arent allowed to sell you anything unless you are on the phone with them.  And by the time they call you its gone.  Its just luck of the draw.  Ive been getting 5 or 6 guns a week from them doing this.  Mostly been Glocks which is fine since i sell a ton of them.

I call RSR and Simmons daily also.

I'm checking my distributors websites several times a day, every day. Some days they seem to have more stuff to order than other days, but there is NEVER and 22 LR or the more popular calibers listed  in economy loads
.
I even emailed and asked what time of day they're listing anything coming in to them because their listings on stuff like .22 NEVER changes. I asked if it just goes out the door so fact they don't bother changing their website. The answer was " we list the re-stocked stuff early in the morning". Well...their site is down for 2 hours every morning, and when they come back up, the listings are the same as ever.

I am starting to think the employees of the distributorship have an inside line and are grabbing up everything they know they can flip.

To answer your question, I've stocked more heavily in commercially reloaded ammo  this year, more so than in many years....but it beats having empty shelves in the common calibers.

Even the commercial reloaders are having issues getting components though. I am heavily back-ordered on my orders to them.......

Lew Hortons told me that stuff comes in, they check it, and slap a shipping label on it and throw it on back on a truck to go out.
