Hopefully someone can provide me some advice I have a new DSA fal bushtracker rifle with feeding issues sometimes I did the exercise on the gas system by adjusting it until it was reliable. It is a just a few clicks from being closed and it ejects brass with force. I don’t think it is a gas issue But anyway sometimes it will go through a 20 round magazine with no problem and other times it will not fully chamber a round while firing . Basically the bolt is about half forward and the round is canted towards the chamber but not fully in and you cant force it in. So you have to drop the mag and eject the live round which normally you have to dump out of the chamber Mags are a combination of original fal mags, one dsa mag that came with it and 4 keep shooting mags The keep shooting mags are the most reliable believe it or not. Ammo used is radway green, adi, men, lithuanian, and swiss surplus. I fired 20 adi (Australian) with no issues. 60 rg with no issues, The lithuanian would mostly not have many issues with over 90 percent success feed rate. The swiss maybe 85 percent feeding reliability The MEN was the worst. It could not go more than 3 rounds without hanging up. Now it may not necessarily be an ammo issue and I may just have been lucky on the brands that ran fine but I thought I would mention it I know afterwards some magazines did need a cleaning but others were relatively clean and still had issues. Magazine springs appear to be strong. Is it possible a rifle issue or magazine issue? I am at a loss and just need some advice when I test fire it next time. If I have to send it back for repair I will but just want to make sure I am doing everything right first And those magazines can be a bitch to disassemble and put back together |

One of the biggest pains with modern FALs is magazine consistency. Are you seeing the same problem equally with all mags? Or is it specifically problematic/non-problematic with one brand? You said you almost have the gas valve closed, so shouldn't be a gas issue. Deeper than that, I make sure to take the handguard off, pull the piston plug, pull the piston and remove the spring. The piston should move freely down through the receiver. Sounds wierd, but I've seen misaligned pistons/canted barrels cause wacko inconsistent feeding issues like you described. Any specific ammo problematic/non-problematic? Honestly best part about owning a DSA is the amazing CS. 308 win ammo is expensive, and troubleshooting yourself can get expensive and frustrating. Id call DSA CS, you will more than likely get a RMA and they will troubleshoot the hell out of your rifle. You can even send them your mags you are using and they will troubleshoot those as well. As crappy as it is time wise to send a rifle back, DSA makes the experience relatively painless and truly give the rifle a "custom" repair/inspect. Ive sent a 21" Traditional back for a few QC issues and the shop tech called me personally and wanted to know how I wanted it repaired, different options and had the rifle right in front of him. Thats worth way more than we acknowledge nowdays. |
