| I've stayed away from comps for FA use over the years, choosing to use either an A2 or Vortex. An article in the new SWAT talked about comps reaching the point that their virtue (ability to stay on target better) exceed the downside (increased flash, muzzle blast), depending on the comp used. I think I'd like to try one on my 14.5. Which do you recommend? I'm going to eliminate Knight's because of cost, but I'm open to other suggestions. Thanks. |

You realize an A2 is in fact a compensator, as well as being a flash suppressor? So you've been using one all along, though I understand wanting to get into a more aggressive brake/compensator design.
I've heard good things about the battle comp, though I've never used one myself. |

I believe the closed bottom of the A2 is more to prevent a dust signature while prone, but I guess it might offer some push similar to an AK slant brake. I've also heard good things about the Battle Comp, and Spike's similar offering. |

Compensator directs gases upward to reduce muzzle rise.
Brake directs gases backward to reduce recoil. AK47 "slant brake" is really more of a slant compensator, is it does very very little in the recoil reduction department - just a little push to keep the muzzle down, and slightly off axis to help compensate bolt torque. AK74 style brake is a pretty good brake and compensator both. A2 half birdcage is primarily a flash suppressor, but the closed bottom does help it act as a compensator. First time I fired a a skinny barrel full auto with an A2 muzzle device, the compensation effect was actually pushing the muzzle down during the burst. With thicker or longer barrels, the effect is much less noticeable. |

The Carlson Nitro Comp is very very effective.
Although it is also a very good flash enhancer |
