I recently purchased my first nv device; custom built gen 3 monocular from a local guy who seemed like he knew his shit. After doing a bunch of online forum reading and research I was very nervous about buying online, even from our sponsors. Not that I read anything about getting screwed over or bad product from said sponsors, I just felt more comfortable dealing with someone ftf and actually getting to inspect what I was spending $3k on. He explained to me how they worked and let me pick from several different tubes and configurations.  I am thrilled with the purchase. Very high quality tube.

Anyway, to my question. I mounted the nvg behind my CompM4 to sight in my IR and noticed before I turned it on the reticle was already visible. Thought at first that it was on but indeed it was not. The reticle was very faint but I could definitely see it.  Back home and thinking about this and should have removed batteries from rds to see if the dot remained or not.  Guessing since batteries are making a connection, even when off there it connectivity and the sight has power, hence the visible dot?  Anyone else experience this?  Thanks. BYW, this nv + ir stuff is awesome.

What you are thinking is OFF is actually the first NV setting, it never really turns off.
