I was trolling Midway's site just this morning and noticed Cold Steel swords.
I have always wanted a functional sword but the custom price tags killed the interest. Are these worth my time? |

I have two. They are decent steel and have nice sharp edges.
Not the best, but very good for the price. I would not consider them heavy use blades though. The torture tests they put them through in the vids on their site are impressive but the bladse gotta look rough at the end of it. you hit a knot in a piece of wood or something, you'll bend the edge. If I was going to train with one and really learn the art of the sword, I'd buy better, but for a wall hanger thats also fully functional Cold Steel is a great choice. I think I'd love to carry mine in a TEOTWAWKI scenario cause it would make me look that much more insane |

you hit a knot in a piece of wood or something, you'll bend the edge. You're not supposed to be doing things like that with swords. If you can bend the edge, the blade is too soft. If you ever abuse a good blade that way, you will either chip the edge, or the blade will break and the piece(s) will helicopter away and endanger anyone who is any where near you. Knowledge of swords should not be acquired from Hollywood, any more than knowledge of firearms should be acquired that way. Doing stupid stuff with swords probably injures as many as stupid stuff with guns. Guns just get more attention from the press. |

Let me first say that many years ago I lived in Japan and did the whole martial arts thing while there.
Kendo, Karate, Kyudo, et cetera. I'm no expert, but I had a lot of fun, and handled weapons older than the USA. I've got a bunch of pictures around here somewhere, but I'm so skinny in them, I'm not recognizable.... sad. That being said, I bought a Cold Steel Warrior Katana several years ago to use as a beater for cardboard tubes, foam pool noodles and other fun stuff in the back yard. A bit heavy for its size, balance is a bit off, but it cuts like crazy. I've used it and abused it and except for some minor scratches on the blade, it's still sharp, shiny, and tight. You get what you pay for, and while Cold Steel is not the best, nor wholly accurate to historical pieces, they seem to be built like a tank, and I've certainly gotten my money's worth out of it. I would not hesitate to buy another. YMMV. |

Quoted: You need to watch Tosh.O. They did a piece with Cold Steel swords and while cutting things with it, the handle came off and the blade nearly skewered the cameraman. Funny....but dangerous to swing I guess. Use at your own risk. Chopping wood with a sword is a good way to make that happen |
