Hi all,

I spent a large part of this weekend up at the range (finally!) with my HK94...put around 300 rounds through it, using the Federal American Eagle 9mm that my father gets from the PD for dirt cheap (state contract and all).

After 300 rounds...holy christ that thing was dirty. I mean abnormally dirty. The AK I had up there with me, went through 300 rounds of Barnul I think it was...wasn't NEARLY as dirty as the HK94 was.

Does anyone know what a good, CLEAN(er) 9mm round would be? It'd be doing double duty, between the HK94 and what will eventually be my carry pistol (hopefully if I can get an unrestricted permit here)...

Obviously, I know a lot more about rifle and carbine ammo than I do about handgun ammo. Anyone have any insights?

Thanks for any help!

I have had excellent results with Fiocchi .40 and 45ACP. Loaded to true SAMMI specs and very clean burning powder. I shoot most of it thru a blowback operated carbine so clean burning is important.
I buy 45ACP by the case (500rds) for $115 shipped from ammoman.
No squibs or bad rounds so far. The 9mm is probably the same but I can't swear to it.
The .40 makes major (IPSC) and burns very clean in my Glock (not that it matters).

I am not sure how it works but at an IPSC match I picked up some brass that came from ammo called  Win-Clean that fired brass was as clean on the inside as new unfired brass was.

I do not know how this translates into cleaner guns.

I think part of that is what they call BEB (breass enclosed Base). The science behind it is that if you enclose the typically exposed lead base of the bullet you won't have the flash melting that typically occurs. That combined with a clean burning powder equalls a less dirty gun.

I think "Winclean" refers to the round being nontoxic, not that there is less goop in the gun after it is fired.
