I bought a new STG 556 in Dec last year finally got around to shooting it and find it is putting a bulge my brass up near the base.

Shooting factory Fed AE. Less than 200round thru this gun.

I measured it and the chamber with calipers and come out to .381.

When I drop a factory unfired cartridge in the chamber it is very sloppy.

have 5+ other 223/556 rifles and none of the chambers are like this.

Anyone else have this issue?

EDIT
Rifle is on its way back to MSAR.
Wanted to send only the barrel but went with sending the whole rifle to check headspace.
before

after, you can see the bulge in my crappy pic.

Makes me wonder about swapping barrels

Took a handful of spent cases to a Buds house and tried to resize one.
Excessive pressure on the arm and stuck the case in his dieand pulled the rim off
Unfired case starts at .370 fired at the bulge is .381. not good

update; MSAR agreed to replace the barrel when they get a new batch in
I keep editing this as this particular post will not let me post on it again WTF. I get his now and then on this site and it varies which forum will do this to me it was the AK side before now here??????

update no.2 11/03/2010
no rifle, no response to 2 phone calls 1 voicemail and 1 nice lady who took a message

Final update;
Got a hold of MSAR and finally got the ok for a new barrel.
Was replaced and shipped same day.
Got the rifle back and removed the barrel to look at chamber, looks good and the old spent cases would not even go in the chamber 1/2 way.
Took the weapon out and ran 40rds. thru it with no issues,  NO bulge in the spent cases, measured .375 in.
Thanks to Jeff for making my rifle right.

I cant say ive heard of this problem but my STG from around the same time ended up having a rough bore and MSAR replaced it, although the new barrel was missing the GR feature.  Call MSAR and send the rifle in for inspection.

That is the first time I've heard of something like that.  I'd give MSAR a call.  I'd love to see pictures of a round in your chamber.

They'll fix you.  They fix everything....

I would stop shooting this rifle immediately before you have a case failure while firing.  I don't know what would happen but I wouldn't want to be the one to find out. Especially since the chamber is next to your face.

I would call MSAR in the early AM to actually get a hold of someone.  You can go to their web page and do up in RA for your rifle and state why you're sending it in.  They've been pretty good WRT fixing rifles....even if their comms on their industry page suck.

It shouldnt be sloppy, but MSAR uses the FA reamers on their barrels (except the original 24").

I had the same issue with my STG556. Dave sent me a new barrel in a week or so. New barrel runs about .377 fired. Still a bit large, but resizable.
Hope this helps.
