I'm getting ready to order my first CMP Garand and I have a question...I'm using my C&R license as proof of shooting activities. I just moved and haven't received an updated C&R with the correct address on it yet. I know that by law they can't ship it to a different address if I'm using my C&R to buy the gun, but I'm only using it as proof of shooting activities for the CMP. It won't be a big problem if they have to ship it to the old address, it's my parents house but I'd rather have it delivered here to avoid driving 100 miles round trip. Think a utility bill or something like that would cover the rest or are they going to make me have it shipped to my parents house?

I think if you use your C&R to purchase it, they will have to ship it to that address.

The C&R isn't proof of shooting, I believe they than transfer it to you using the license.

Marksmanship or other Firearms Related Activity
You must provide proof of participation in a marksmanship related activity or otherwise show familiarity with the safe handling of firearms and range procedures. Your marksmanship related activity does not have to be with highpower rifles; it can be with smallbore rifles, pistols, air guns or shotguns. Proof of marksmanship participation can be provided by documenting any of the following:

Current or past military service.
Current or past law enforcement service
Participation in a rifle, pistol, air gun or shotgun competition (provide copy of results bulletin).
Completion of a marksmanship clinic that included live fire training (provide a copy of the certificate of completion or a statement from the instructor).
Distinguished, Instructor, or Coach status.
Concealed Carry License.
Firearms Owner Identification Card.
FFL or C&R license.
Completion of a Hunter Safety Course that included live fire training.
Certification from range or club official or law enforcement officer witnessing shooting activity. A form for use in completing and certifying your range firing can be downloaded from the CMP web site at http://www.odcmp.com/forms/marksmanship.pdf
No proof of marksmanship required if over age 60.  proof of club membership and citizenship required for all ages.

I don't know, I'm using it for proof only, I guess it wouldn't hurt to call them and ask. Heck I'll even provide them with my lease agreement if I have to!

You may be able to use it as proof of shooting activities, but how are you going to have the rifle delivered?  If they are sending it direct to you it must be to the address on the C&R.  The only other way is to have it shipped to a FFL holder.

Nope, CMP ships the garand right to your door.  No FFL needed.

The CMP is exempt from the Gun Control Act of 1968 and will ship to any address you designate.  The C&R FFL is only used for proof of the shooting requirement.  CMP, as a matter of policy, runs everyone through the NICS check.

If you have a concealed handgun license you can use that as proof of shooting activity too.

Thank you sir, I stand corrected.  I haven't ordered from them (yet) so I assumed it was just like any other C&R purchase.

They used to ship on a C&R but now they run everybody through NICS. So I don't think the address on it is going to matter. You might give them a call, they are very helpful.
