I saw a commercial for this bullet bunker so I checked them out.
Price.....
Bullet Bunker I could be going insane, but I thought I saw plans for a homemade bullet bunker? I cant seem to find the thread, maybe it was just mentioned here? Me being the cheap person I am, figured I could collect and reuse the lead for new bullets.
Does anyone know what thread Im talking about? |

I stopped at their booth at the NRA show. They have some impressive ratings. They are built a lot tougher than what the are openly rated for (for valid reasons). They prices seemed pretty reasonable. I am sure shipping will add to the cost. If I recall correctly the most common one handled all centerfire pistol ammunition and cost about $500.00.

For my "bullet bunker" in my garage chrono range, I use 50 lb bag of sand (media) behind the tough polymer lid of a swimming pool shock 22 gal bucket. The (IMO polyethelene) lid passes the bullet into the sand where it is ground up. The hole then basically closes back up and keeps the packed sand from spilling out of the bucket. Check with Old Painless and his Box-O-Truth studies on the stopping power of sand. 10" of sand has stopped everthing I have fired at it from 10 ft. away.
Warning: If you do this, be aware that constantly firing through the same hole without repacking the sand, will possibly drill a hole through the sand column which is not good. |

That sounds pretty nice. I recall something with pieces of rubber being used as the bullet stop. Sand sounds cheaper....and free.
