I have a 50 Beowulf 12.5" AA upper on the way to go with my 16" Want to add some more uppers in big bore calibers? What does everyone else have? Im thinking 400 Legend, 450 Bushmaster etc. |

Depends what you want to do with it? .458 Socom if you want heavy up to 600gr+ & subsonic suppressed 450 Bushmaster if you want supersonic 2-300gr projos and/or ability to use common .452 projectiles and powders for reloading Or there's the various 'raptor' wildcats too if you want to venture into a large-frame rifle - .45Raptor, .375Raptor etc Personally I'd go with a .458Socom setup from Tromix - Tony is awesome and has been in the big bore game for a long time |
| my ONLY reason I didn't mention 458 socom is that while comfortable reloading straight wall cartridges, I'm concerned I wouldn't be able to make accurate ammo reloading a bottle neck cartridge. Does the 458 require extra reloading steps beyond just full length resizing and trimming as necessary, to make accurate reloads? |

I haven't found the .458 SOCOM any more difficult to load than a typical straight wall cartridge. I have the Hornady 2-die set. I do seat and crimp in separate steps. Mine has a 16" barrel, and with a can on it makes for a pretty long stick. I played around a little with some supersonic loads but got it primarily to shoot subs. You really need to settle on a single load and get it dialed in, since the heavy subs have a serious rainbow trajectory. Here you go. A little first-round-pop, but afterward sounds pretty decent. I use unmodified Lancer 5.56 mags.  .458 SOCOM / Bowers VERS-458 |
