I am looking for some good ammo holders for my hand loads. I have some of the MTM (10) round slip top case, but it has no latches to hold the top on ... so when it tips over the rounds all spill out. I have some of the Barry (10) round slip top case as well, but they do not hold the rounds very securely so they rattle all the time ... but they do have notches that hold the case closed. I love the Barrett boxes, but I only have a couple and I need about a half dozen more .... anyone know where you can get them or someone that makes something very similar? You would think that a form fitted box with latches on the side wouldn't be too much to ask; considering the serious round deserves serious care. Thanks, Sarg |

Yea those are the ones that I use now ... they are the ones that I accidently called MTM. MTM makes the ones I misidentified as Plano. I don't believe Plano makes any holds for catridges this size.
Berry's is one of the few that latch but the rounds still rattle around quite a bit inside. They are better than the MTM cases though .... not having a latch to hold it shut sucks ... I tend to have extra tape laying around just for this reason. Thanks though ... Sarg |

Have you looked at the MTM Case Gard 12 Ga. ammo boxes? You can remove one of the trays and it will hold 50 rounds and has a latch to keep it closed tight. You use the other tray for reloading or you can cut it down to fit a 50 Cal ammo can and it will hold 50 more rounds in a water tight can.
If memory serves me right, the MTM 12 Ga. boxes are big enough on the inside to hold rounds loaded with AMAX loaded out to 6" w/o hitting the top of the box. |

I do have (3) MTM 12g Boxes with trays. I use the MTM boxes to carry or store (6) 10 round boxes each. They fit in there perfect and I use the 12g trays for reloading sometimes .... the fit on the 12g hole is tight though and sometimes the cases stick. I have recently replaced the 12g trays with the MTM 10g trays. The diameter of the holes are a better fit for the 50 BMG and the trays are not as big so getting them into an ammo can is easier. I just like to load up 5-10 rounds of test loads and put them in 10 round holders for when I go to the range. When I go to the range I just grab my MTM box that has the (6) boxes of 10 rounds that I want to record data on. One of the biggest challenges is when I go hunting though ... I will normally just grab (1) 10 round box and jump in the buggy and head for the hills. The rounds in those 10 round boxes get the crap beat out of them during the trip ... I would like to try to avoid it if possible.
I highly recommend replacing your 12g trays with 10g trays. I believe I paid $3 for them off the MTM website. They hold the cases just as well as the 12g, but the cases don't get stuck in the tighter fit ones ... plus they are a little smaller ... just an fyi. |
