This is my second FAL, The first one I got quite a few years ago is an Onyx arms Israeli light barrel. I really didn't know what I was buying at the time as embarrassing as that it...I just thought it looked REALLY really cool!! Tonight I bought an Argentine that is mint in the original box. The original owner told me he got it around 1988. He fired 5 rds and put it away. The styrafoam (sp) box has the manual and the factory spent casing as well as the manufactures target inside that is dated 1988. It also only had 1 mag. All of the numbers match and are below 300. I am trying to figure out what I have here and an approximate value. I have scoured the internet looking for current sales but to no avail...I do not intend to sell it but desire to learn more about it. sadly I really still don't know much about the FAL rifles except that it a very sexy doll of a weapon. I really like it. About all I have learned is that the Argentine rifle is a very high quality build and desirable Fal Anything that you can tell me about this would surely be appreciated! |

The British Special Air Service and Royal Marines Mountain and Arctic Warfare cadre were issued M16s in the early 80s as they were much lighter to carry on longer reconnaissance missions where pounds carried are a premium. When they went to the Falklands there were several patrol-level skirmishes between British and Argentines, the Argentines carrying their FALs. A few of the British troops opted to switch their M16s for captured Argentine FALs. The Falklands was the first war where both sides were armed with the same weapons (Argentine license FALs and British L1A1s, and MAG-58s and GPMGs). A British Army Chaplain passed information on tracer colors as the Brits used red while the Argentines fired green (I believe -- it was a long time ago). |

National Arms IIRC. Would have been imported as a complete rifle. Are the importer markings on the barrel? |

Argentine FMAP FAL rifles are some of the best out there. A complete rifle ( factory built with matching upper and lower ) is a nice find. Some were caught up during the impending import ban and the uppers and lower halves were split up and sold to different companies and then sold off. I have one of those guns that the upper and lower are mixed up and imported by SAC. Receivers are forged and top quality. |
