A few weeks ago I found an old 1100 in a local pawn shop and thought it would make a good basis for a project gun. I've been looking for an autoloader for a while to run in our local 3 gun matches, and flip flopped a couple of times with some different ideas, but finally decided to take the "rebuild" route.

Some "before" pics: Just a garden variety 1100, 26 inch barrel, full choke. Mechanically sound, but the wood was ugly and the bluing was worn down to bare metal on several places on the receiver.

Some of the upgrades included:

Replace wood with Remington synthetic stock set
Daves Metal Works Easy Loader
5 round Choate magazine extension (gives me 9+1 capacity)
Barrel Clamp
Magazine Tube Spring and safety follower
Choate Extended Bolt Handle
Fiber optic front sight
Fresh gas rings
3 Gun Gear fore end shell carrier
3 Gun Gear 7 shot side saddle (backordered, not installed yet)
Do-it-yourself Brown Krylon job (semi-happy with it, but not worried enough to redo it)

The new look:

Bad pic - was trying to get the front sight:

No range report yet, so I'm not quite ready to call the project a success until I make sure it runs, next weekend I'll hopefully get to test drive it a bit. I'm used to running an 18 inch 870 in our matches, so going up to a 26 inch autoloader will be an adjustment. Luckily for me, we don't shoot different classifications, so I don't have to worry about the 9+1 putting me in "Open".

If I ever go shoot any sanctioned matches, I may have to rethink my configuration.

Good looking rig, very nice pics. (Wish I knew how to do that)  Do you thing being a "magnum" will cause you any problems with lighter loads?

Thanks.

I have a friend who runs bascially the same rig (26 inch mag 1100) and he says his feeds most reliably with loads above the 3 dram level.

I'll give it a try with several loads because I'd really like to know how low I can go and still have it cycle reliably. But, based on his experience, he seems to have good luck with just a little heavier of a load, like a Heavy Dove Load.

Looks good , I wonder how it will do with slugs with the full choke  other than a little more recoil.

I've seen lots of different opinions about slugs in full chokes. Its no problem to use them; an occasional slug won't hurt; don't use them at all because of barrel bulging issues. The 1100 manual states that you should shoot slugs in a Cylinder or IC barrel "for best results". The couple of packs of slugs I happen to have state on the box "can be shot in any choke".

So, I really don't know. I think just about all my shotgunning experience has been IC guns. Ideally, I wish this one would have had screw in chokes.
