I know there is a lengthy Amsec thread, but the last post is about a year old. I need a new safe, I want a BFII, but literally no one stocks them, to order them would be 20-24wks. Nobody locally wants to move a safe, even the handful of safe dealers and gunshops, at least not one over 600lbs. Actual safe store in the city next to me has a BFX7240, regular gray industrial finish (which is what I want), they will change the e-lock to a manual dial, tote this 1600lb monster 70mi, install it, and bolt it down for just under $8k* out the door. My concern is the side walls being 11 and 12ga, research says the drylite (sp) doesn’t really offer any protection. On the positive side, the safe will be in a closet, so the sides won’t be accessible without going through drywall and studs (I know, not a huge barrier) and the safe would be out of site. *A local guy who sells safes, isn’t an Amsec dealer, and no longer installs, will sell me a BFII for $12k, 20-24wk delivery, and I have to figure out how to get it from the freight place and into my house… What a bargain. Place next to me is $2k cheaper (BFX7240) than anyone on line and that is with bolt down and install, and I don’t have some fly by night felon moving company seeing this big ass gunsafe. Am I over thinking this? I’m think if someone shows up with tools, it isn’t going to matter if it is a BFX or a BFII, with the alarm screaming, and the cameras. I live in the city, if I was out in the sticks, maybe something more substantial would be in order. My Gf is getting sick of finding guns stashed in cupboards and what not lol. I know people like Sturdy and what not, but there again, transport install is the issue. I have a BF that has done me right for damn near 30yrs, so quality isn’t a concern. |

Get the biggest safe you can afford, bolt it down, and add more layers of security. This is bad advice and should be ignored. No safe is 100% secure -- true. But there is a big difference between a shitty big box store China-made safe an a certified RSC or TL30 safe, none of which cost $50k for a homeowner to get. I would need power tools and 30+ minutes to get into a bolted down TL30. I would just need to be a crackhead with 5 spare minutes and a fireman's axe to get into a shitty China safe. That's a huge difference in both risk of loss and capability of access. You do you, but I'm not buying the big box store "just as good" garbage. OP, I don't think you're overthinking it. These safes are usually something you only buy once or twice in your life. If I were you, I'd wait to get what you want both in terms of size and protection level. Don't settle for less just because it's convenient. In 10 years you won't even remember the difference in cost or delivery time. You will remember, however, when your safe is too small to fit your guns or it gets broken into by a methbilly with a crow bar or all your guns get cooked in a fire. BFII is a decent safe, but if you want/can afford more, you should do so. Regarding the install, call some local rigging companies in your area. In my area, those are actually who does installs even for safe sellers and locksmiths. Good luck! |

I just think the BFII is a better RSC than the BFX and it's only about 2k more. I'll marinade on it. |

any good local safe guys? I was going to move my AMSEC BF6030. when I bought it years ago as the best RCS for the money, it was like $2k. They wanted like $2k just to move it last year and I said no. It's still in my other property. I found a great localish to my new home safe guy (3 hours away) and He found me a TL-30 in the same size that was only a year old that the business closed and they needed it GONE Asap. I spent $3k for safe and moving it and another few hundred for a new lock put on it. WAY better than the AMSEC BF. Now granted no rug or mirror inside. I put molle panels and custom rifle racks inside. I will never buy another RCS again. The door on my new safe weighs more than even my whole BF safe. Granted AMSEC BF RCS's are what RCS's used to be. I had an old cheap senty 20 gun safe with no fire liner and it was 1/4 steel. New version is sheet metal and 10x the price. For you budget you can find so many TL-30's that are lightly used in a business. Or even new. Not sure if you closet can support the weight though. |

Delivered to my house. I have, but those bitches are heavy lol. We are looking at homes (moving), which is why I have been dragging my feet on buying another safe. I cancelled the BFX, walls are just too thin. They gave me a quote on a BFII, they are now trying to charge me for delivery and of course shipping from Amsec, so now it is $4k more than the BFX. I just donKt want to have to move this thing if we move, which could happen in 45days or 5yrs lol. *I can get free shipping from the mfg, but have to wait until they do their next showroom order (15k lbs order is free shipping) which will be Aug. $500 for delivery to home is tolerable. I was getting a good deal on the BFX, the BFII is in line with on-line, except delivered and bolted down, this place seems very fair. |
| TL-15 or TL-30, every safe can be opened with enough time and skill but no punk or regular crook is getting into a TL safe. Buy once cry once. They can be moved but it’s not cheap, I had to move (2) TL safes when we moved out of CA, only 350 miles but cost $2500 which was MUCH cheaper than replacing them. Insurance, alarms, and cameras are also needed. |

Last time I was in the market for a gun safe, I bought one from Tractor Supply. Got it home, left it in the corner for a few days. Kept looking it over and came to the conclusion I was throwing money away. Brought it back, then went to a business that sold safes and put money on a Superior Master (1/4" plate door, 10ga walls). Kept thinking about it, and decided that I wanted to do it once and not second guess myself every time I opened the door to it, so I asked to switch to a Superior Untouchable (1/2" plate door, 1/4" walls). Best decision I could have made. If I did it again, I'd probably go even further with a TL15. |
