I'm putting together a 12" 458 SOCOM (Tromix upper with 5/8x24 threads) and have a Hybrid 46DT waiting for approval at the gunshop. My original thoughts were that this is the only gun that the Hybrid 46 will ever be used on and I don't have any plan on shooting unsuppressed, so I went with the cheaper DT version. Now I'm having second thoughts because of the following I'm pretty anal about keeping stuff clean so I will take the suppressor off after each range session to clean the barrel and I've heard that repeated removal/installation of direct thread can mess with the barrel threads and eventually cause problems. Even though I'm positive that the gun will be shot suppressed all the time it is nice to have the option to shoot without in case of something unexpected happening. What do you guys think? Am I thinking too much and just go with the direct thread or maybe look into a quick detach? I don't want the ASR mount and it doesn't appear to be many options for 458 quick detach muzzle devices. |

If the DT mount / adapter is nitrided, and the muzzle threads are nitrided normal threading & unthreading won’t booger up the threads. Bigger issue is keeping the mount from unthreading from the tube when you dismount the can. You might want to rockset the mount in place. With DT mounts you need to watch for unthreading from the muzzle while shooting. A bright witness mark on the shooters side can help detect rotation / unthreading. Have gloves, an oven mitt, or a silicone curling iron sleeve to handle / tighten a hot can. Sleeping the warm can at end of session & dismounting with a hook spanner later when cool will keep mount from unthreading. Tighten onto muzzle with body of can, but dismount by only torquing on the mount with a tool. QD should really be called QA. Once a can is hot you have wait to detach it. QDs are nice if you have many hosts with different muzzle threads. |

Do you have anything else you might consider using this can on? If so I'd lead towards some flavor of QD. If not at least put a witness mark like others have said so you can make sure it isn't rotating off when firing and make sure the DT mount is snug in the can.
