Hi all, Been working on an SKB 12 gauge semi automatic that I have. The gun was rode hard before I owned it and had few rust spots on barrel with micro pitting. Receiver anodizing is faint and worn through, and the poly on the stocks was crackled and scratched. Zero strippers would get that poly off the stocks. Blistered it off with a heat gun and put oil finish with thin coat of tru-oil on top. Nice walnut. Stripped polished and rust blued the barrel. Rust blued the handguard cap. Stripped the trigger housing and sprayed with epoxy paint from auto parts store. Polished the chromed bolt. Every part looks like new except the damn receiver. I’ve never done anodizing or cerakote but don’t want send it out. Want to DIY. My thoughts are a) strip in lye to bare aluminum and polish. b) try my hand at home anodizing c) try air cure cerakote (and try to match berettas upland coin finish or xplor bronze) d) try oven cure cerakote. A is the easiest. Has anyone just polished a bare aluminum receiver? I know anodizing provides some wear protection but all the wear areas are already worn bright (in the white) now. |

Option e) appliance paint. Yeah I figured if I screw up anodizing, I can then go to cerakote. Have to be a little careful as SKB serial is laser etched it looks. Very shallow so don’t want to do any media blasting if any. |
