How does the Mini 14 compare to an AR in accuracy?

You can't even come close to comparing the two.  The AR is waaaaaaay more accurate.

It doesn't.  Even a non-match chrome lined bbl. bullet hose ar is more often than not twice as accurate.  Don't get me wrong the mini is fun, can be a ranch/beater/work rifle, and is very reliable.  1/4MOA? No.HTH

Problem on the mini is the barrel is too thin, and the receiver to stock fit is a bit sloppy.

But, you can rebarrel the rifle, glass bead the receiver to the stock, and adjust the gas system to get the rifle down to a Sub MOA shooter.

On average, how much would that run?

The AR is usually more accurate.

However, we should compare the Mini-14 to a 16" barreled AR to be fair, not a longer 20" AR.

Still, even given that, the AR is usually more accurate unless the Mini has been tweaked a little.

Then it's fairly close.

Heres one place that offers those services FYI.

Replacing the barrel, if done by the right vendor, guarantees an accuracy increase, but also adds forward weight to the light-handling Mini.
My slightly tweaked Mini runs about 2 MOA at 100 yds, which is about the accuracy potential of its ammo.

The Mini was designed to be a light carbine.

Unless you want a heavy barreled, hard-to-swing Mini, consider other options.

About what you would have spent to just buy a good AR in the first place and saved yourself all the trouble.

I already have a couple Ar's and sold off another recently.
I'm just looking to expand the arsenal and I'm keeping an open mind.

I had a Mini and put a Butler Creek folder on it and, believe it or not, that actually helped the accuracy.  Must have been something about the stock because I put it on for an entirely different reason.
