I used a mix of Krylon Camo khaki, green, and brown. There is some Rustoleum brown and black in there as well. Clear coated over top of the camo job. There are some great examples/instructions/material lists in the Sponge and Pinestraw camo threads at the top of the thread list. |

Just use Khaki and mist it over your "black" carbine, and it will turn grey when it dries. Be sure to not put so much paint and over do it, cause it won't come out grey. ETA: The grey is starting to wear/turn khaki a lil bit after I took it hunting/hiking, and It kind of looks like a sidewalk with earth on it now.
 The paint job was only done 3 months ago which is why people say Krylon/Rustos are only for the look. |

Thanks for all the compliments, here are some more pictures and the process that I put in the Sponge Camo Thread: I originally painted my AR with the pine needle method, then I decided to switch it up and combine it with more dark colors and use the sponge method with it. I am pretty pleased with the outcome, it looks even better in person and outside. Base coat of Rustoleum Khaki: 
Adding in the Krylon Camo Brown & Green: 
Added in Black and Khaki sponge patterns, I went light on both:

I didn't degrease anything, just stuff a mag, stick a cotton ball in the FH, and tape anything you don't want painted. I prefer something simple just to break it up a little. The dark one worked well enough in the tongass to cause a mild panic when I set it down to go set up a call and decoy.

It is a mix of the pinestraw and sponge methods. |

did this one after reading the pine straw thread..
Krylon camo colors. Kahki base coat, Boot brown, OD green and a shot of grey primer followed up with some satin clear.
