 TNVC just completed our Night Fighter 101 class at our “home” range in Alliance, Ohio on September 20-21. A Night Fighter 201 was being taught in Alliance as well. Due to the unique ability to train 201 students “off campus” after night 1 allows us to run both classes on the same weekend without conflict. Alliance is a staple in our training locations and many of the TNVC Training cadre know each other because they met as students in other classes in Alliance. This wasn’t exactly a full class but that allowed things to run faster and get the students more rest at the end of the night. The class consisted of a good mix of LEO, experienced students, NV first timers, and one repeat NF101 student. Weather was great for this time of year in Alliance. Days were a little warmer than usual but that made it perfect for training in a t-shirt all night. The class experienced a little rain on night one but with the temps being great no one seemed to mind. Day two we experienced a lot of cloud cover giving the students different lighting conditions with the ambient light being reflected off the clouds. The class had a healthy mix of night vision goggles, lasers, and lights. With that mix came the tech gremlins that seems to plague us in every class. A few lasers went down and after a few mins of reenacting the scene of Zoolander and the computer the lasers started working again. We also found out that reading the manual can solve a problem before it happens. One student inadvertently did something to his gear the manual warned against. Luckly his partner in the class had read the manual and fixed the problem within seconds. Aside from the technological issues we had a few rifle malfunctions but nothing the students couldn’t handle on their own and get right back in class. Night Fighter 101 is the first step into becoming someone who is “confident, competent, and capable” in the use of night vision technology and leads directly into our Night Fighter 201, where we continue to expand on the principles learned in Night Fighter 101. We are proud to be associated with the Alliance Police training facility, and we cannot say enough good things about the work Joe Weyer does to help us have great classes. If you have the chance to train there, you should really take advantage of it. Great location, amazing training opportunities and some super trainers train there. Additionally, several companies generously stepped up to offer students swag and such for their attendance. We really appreciate their generosity and are proud to have them associated with our classes.
