I recently purchased a 870 Express, 18 Inch barrel with the extended shell holding tube. My question is removal of the barrel. The manual reflects the basic model but this version is a little different. I suspect that you first have to removed the clamp on the extention then unsrew the extention (but what about the spring?). Any help would be apprectiated.

After you remove the barrel clamp and unscrew the extension, remove the magazine spring.

Then unscrew the coupling from the end of the guns magazine tube.  This coupling retains the barrel.

NOTE: For reasons unknown, many Remington guns with the factory magazine tube are leaving the factory with the coupling screwed on so tight, you may have to use large pliers padded with leather or heavy canvas to unscrew it.

When re-installing the coupling, screw it on snug, then give it one more "click".
You should be able to remove the coupling with just your fingers.
