I've had a different experience. I have had an old Eagle AIII for years, but recently got one of the TT versions while working overseas. While the TT is well made, I don't feel the "fit and finish" are any better than the Eagle. In fact, the the stitching isn't on the same level of neatness. The look of the stitching doesn't really affect function of course. But, the radio antenna/Camelbak tube ports do not have tape sealed seams and are just open cuts in the fabric with a rubber fabric backing. I can see these wearing with a lot of use. Also, the shoulder straps of the TT, while super thick and padded, are not anywhere near as ergonomic as those on the Eagle. They are difficult to adjust once the pack is being worn, and are difficult to keep on your shoulders (due to the thick padding) when wearing body armor. The interior Camelbak pocket on the TT is not nearly high enough inside the pack either. I do however like the placement of the PALS webbing on the TT, and chose it over the Eagle MOLLE AIII for this reason. On another note, does anyone have any experience with the TAG made 1st Gen RAID packs yet? |
LOL, wish you would have posted this three hours earlier, before I bought a TT pack!  In all seriousness, the Eagle packs look nice, but with teh TT pack in woodland camo being on sale for $67 it is just too good of a deal to pass up. Besides, I know myself well enough to realize I will end up with an Eagle A-II in addition to the TT eventually (gotta make the G/F carry some stuff when we go hiking!)

It is the knockoff model from Cheaper Than Dirt, and you can get it for even less at CTD's website. I have handled one...construction was decent but nothing specutacular. Also, it seemed pretty heavy for such a small pack, and was not particularly comfortable. I think it is a knowoff of a Maxpedition pack, though the model name escapes me at the moment. Re: Sseric - Had the packs been the same price or very close in price, I probably would have gone with the Eagle pack. But $55 is a heck of a lot of difference in price ($67 vs. $125) even if the Eagle was a bit better. Not to say I am cheap, but well, I am! Eagle makes some great stuff. I have one of their chest rigs and abosultely love it. |

I agree fit and finish have nothing to do with it. I didnt need any body armor or a radio while hiking is all, everyone's opinion will probably be different based on use.

Can anyone comment on the Spec Ops T.H.E.? www.lapolicegear.com/specopsthepack.html Criteria: -Back surface compartments the double as an effective rifle rest. (the "crotch" between compartments is preferred) -MOLLE rigging -Internal stays or frame is preferred. -under $175, otherwise I get a Marauder with the Killer Gear strap ons. Or even a Eagle IIIA with the KG strapons. -Comfort, strength, all the desired things. Here's my Blachawk patrol pack. I'd say it was a 3day with some pouches added already.  Notice the reflective strip that is shining back at the flash?  I couldn't see it when I took the pic. I removed it right after I saw that.Most of it is the fartsack and the Z-Rest pad.

Condor Outdoors is in California. It does resemble the BFM pack shown below. I wondered if anyone had the Condor Outdoors pack and could comment on construction and durability. The size of the pack shown above is: 21" H x 13" W x 10" D. |

Although it is a bit smaller than the Eagle AIII Molle or the Tactical Tailor 3 day pack, I have found that the U.S. issued Molle II combat pack is pretty nice...basically all the same features except for a waist belt, about 1500 square inches (as opposed to about 2200 for the TT or Eagle pack), and I find the straps more comfortable than the super thick ones on the TT 3 day. It also is a lot cheaper...I have found them for under $40, and if you are lucky you can find them with the issued frameshhet still in the bladder pocket. I have used it for range trips (no serious hiking) and it seems to do the job well. |

The stash it would be a good compromise between the two. The Esstac has three loops for a knife, flashlight, multi tool and you can fit someother stuff in it.The eod is set up for a fair sized tool kit and has tons of pouches. stash it www.kifaru.net/MG_stash2.htm |
Hmmm...take a look at the PPM MFP (Patriot Perfromance Materials Medical First aid Pouch) over at OP Tactical....essentially the same pouch but on $16 as opposed to $40! Dawg |

Ok a question form a real newb here. Why do these packs have all of those small straps attached about an inch or tow apart? It looks like somne of the have over 50 of them? Is this some sort of attachment point? Also, Pathfinder. I am also in MD...where are you located? I am in Balto Co. |

The pouches you buy have molle "strap" on the back of them. You then weave the strap on your pouch through the loops on the pack, its a very secure method. Here's a view of the pack of a Molle pouch with the strap you weave through the "female" end or the loops on the pack.

Agreed... but only if what you're attaching isn't going to bemoved around or taken off very often and there isn't a lot of things being attached. MALICE clips can be a PITA to remove and when you start racking up a bunch othat you have to take off it gets even worse. I'm more partial to MOLLE because they're just as secure IMHO and much easier to remove, but doesn't seem to be as common now as MALICE |

Kingair. I have both the Maxpedition Condor II and just received the Vulture II the other day. Both packs are very well thought out and the quality of materials and constrution is excellent. I bought a couple smaller waist packs for things like phone/FRS radio, flash light, compass that fit the waist strap. Bought a larger waist pack for I haven't decided yet. Added the Proteus Versapack as a possible first aid kit that can be mounted to the back of either pack. I just wish Maxpedition would make some larger cargo packs for the sides of the CondorII and Vulture packs rather than a bunch of small pouches. Karsten |
Are there any other products to compare this to? Or is this the only rifle consealing backpack combo out there? |
I wouldn't say it conceals the rifle... just allows you to carry it on your back. Kifaru has the GunBearer system   TAD Gear's FAST pack has a way to carry a rifles as well.  Neither are quite a "sheath" like the Eberlestock though. |

raid, raid, tad fast pack  i like them all. The raid is larger and more useful i think. I use the tad pack for carrying books and such for school and it makes an ok range bag. Both are constructed extremely well. |

Anyone have any experience with the Tactical Tailor 3 Day Plus pack? I've currently got a Camelbak BFM - I love the size of it and the internal organizers but was looking for a similar sized pack in multicam. Any info on the TT would be appreciated - also, how does it compare to an Eagle AIII molle? Thanks! |
