Hey all, I've got an Enfield receiver culled from one of RTI's sewer-pipe Enfields that I want to convert to .45ACP. There's not a lot of information out there on the conversions and it looks like a few outfits made the conversion over the years with most of them being Rhineland Arms as the OEM.

I think I have a pretty good handle on everything, but I was wondering if anyone here has a converted Enfield and any feedback on what worked and didn't? I'm specifically curious about ejection and if anyone has drilled/tapped a new hole forward of the old ejector screw position to help ejection.

I bought the kit and have yet to do the conversion. Someone else on here said they use a 3D printed mag block and it works better than the Rhineland Arms one.  Never got the files for it unfortunately. Ejection will be meh or problematic. Always was with these guns. Looks overall like a pretty easy conversion. Getting the barrel off will be the hardest part I think.

I've got a few DP no1mk3s I might try to do an actual delisle conversion on.  Just need the time which is in really short supply for me.

Yeah, I spoke with a gentleman with a 3d printed magwell on FAL Files (may be the same individual!), I'm aware of the potential weak ejection unfortunately. I've seen two conversions (one SIA, one RA) that really kicked the case out but I don't know what their ejection setup looks like. I know SIA has an ejector built into the magazine adapter and a modified bolt head.

I didn't want to invest in tooling so I sent the barreled receiver off to BDL and he pulled it for me, I'm waiting on it back now and I've got a RA magwell on order which just shipped. Once RA gets barrels back in stock I'll pick one up and do the conversion.

Who is BDL and what did they charge to remove the barrel ?

I just bought a barreled action1917 date enfield with a miss matched bolt. It looks rough inside the barrel but it might be grease and dirt. Front sight is broke and the rear leaf is missing. 100 bucks otd.so I think I did all right.

Have a buttstock and.front.end that was cut just in front of the barrel shank. It was off a Ishaphore 2A and was free.

I also have some heavy aluminum tube that about right for a Delisle.

May order.from Rhineland.when he has stock agian

BDL - Brian Dick Limited

He charged $100 plus return shipping, which was the same as the cost of an action wrench. It was a no-brainer for me since Enfields aren't known for their loose barrels. You got a good price on the Enfield receiver especially if all the small parts are there!

I got the Rhineland Arms magazine well in - I'm not terribly impressed but it'll do the job. I'll probably end up trying to cut it as flush as possible to the original magazine well for aesthetic reasons (I don't like the 'mag in a mag' look). I'm fitting that up to the magwell and stock now, and I got a replacement sporterized birch forend and NOS birch stock from Apex that I'm going to use instead of the ratty walnut the rifle came with.

I also settled on a Bad Ace Tactical NDT scope mount and a very old BSA 30mm red dot. Once the NDT mount gets here I'll test fit it while I wait for barrels to come back in stock.

Well, Rhineland Arms ended up making Centerfire Systems their distributor and Centerfire finally got more kits in. While I waited for the new kits I installed a front sling loop (another rear sling loop, just forward) and found an Eagle stock pad which I removed the elastic webbing from (the webbing was shot). It holds two 1911 mags perfectly.

The barrel install was incredibly easy, but the modified extractor (per the Rhineland instructions) results in anemic-at-best ejection. I found what appears to be a new production No4 7.62 extractor on eBay UK and picked it up - reports from others who've done the conversion indicate that this solves most of the extraction and ejection problems but we'll see.

While I wait for that I'm going to solder on a Remington 3/8 dovetail front sight ramp and install a suitable front sight, then blue the barrel and add a thread protector while I figure out a can.

I also am trying to track down someone who was on Reddit and shared a 3d-printed magwell they designed - the Rhineland adapter is an ok solution but has no over-insertion stop for the magazines, so it's very easy to fumble a reload on an open bolt. The 3d-printed magwell has a full magazine support and appears to have a heel release, so while that would limit me to 7rd mags it should also be a much more suitable design.

Here's how it stands now, a far cry from the sewerpipe I picked up from Royal Tiger Imports:

I have a No 1 MKIII Drill Rifle that is a current work in progress with a Rhineland kit.  I bought two kits to play with and wanted the first build to looking like a SMLE tanker.

Here's what it currently looks like with Sarco repo bayonet and supressor fitted:
Attached File

Attached File

There are a few issues I have with the kit.  The locking ring provided with the kit doesn't cover all of the threads on the barrel.
Attached File

The muzzle threading was too long for my suppressor.  I had Morgan do a crown back on both barrels to make it compatible with standard suppressor threading (like the glock shown)
Attached File

I fitted the front end and attempted my first silver soldering of the rear sight block.  There is a lot of hand fitting on this project.

Ejection is pretty consistent if you forcefully eject the round.  I will get the occasional flip back into the receiver.  It takes a quick side dump and I can chamber the next round.  I found the easiest way to deal with the magazine over insertion is to just insert and pull it back until the catch stops it.

I have one that was done by an old guy in Nevada who doesn’t do them anymore…I can’t remember the name of his company.

Mine ejects fine but likes to jam on chambering.  I’m sure my magwell isn’t aligned right as the round tends to go nose up and prevent it from chambering.

Edit: Specialty Interest Arms.

Guess who just picked up a Mossberg MVP and now has to go dig for his 9mm Colt mag adapter?

Gonna pull the firing pin & try .380 in the 5.56 chamber 1st before I send off the barrel and a 9mm blank to Paladin Machining in SC.

There are various 1911 magazine lip styles.   Changing styles may fix that timing release problem.  Ie tapered lips versus parallel lips.

Is it safe to use a DP receiver with this barrel kit? Do you need to plug weld the holes in the front receiver ring or is the pressure of the 45 ACP low enough to not require it?

Thank you, I was never really a 1911 guy even though I carried one at work for a year or two.  I’ll have to look through what I have and see if it makes a difference.

The pressure is low enough on a .45 ACP that the holes in the receiver don't matter.  If I tried to rebarrel it with a .303 I'd be in trouble.  Take a look at the barrel thickness on a 1911.  The breech end of the barrel is thicker than that.

Yes he does - it's also costly.

Sorted out the magwell - it's 3D printed, and has a hole behind the magazine well itself to allow the spent shell casings to fall through. Function is perfect.

It's ejecting downwards behind the magazine like a Kel-Tec RDB?
2/6/2025 3:16:36 PM EDT
[#21]
Yes. Normally the Enfield uses the receiver sidewall about the magazine to force the .303 case to eject but that's not feasible with the smaller .45ACP case.

Finished the build. Taking it out to sight in this week!

I'm working with the designer on getting the file released for public download, when it is I'll share it.

Thats nice. I was thinking of buying one of those barrel kits at Centerfire. Now I wish someone made a .22 cal conversion. A new one not a trainer, to keep the original look.

Is there a mag release or is it pushed in as far as it will go to seat?  I don’t print but have some guys at work that do.  I’m not impressed with my metal one unfortunately.

He did a Yerapeein mag release at the heel of the mag so it's limited to standard 7 rnd mags.

That is the downside. Otherwise it is a better magwell in every way.
