Here is how the story goes.... Several months ago the phone here rings and the caller ID lights up "Sig Arms" I pick up the phone and the voice on the other end states.... Hello; 'WE' are interested in purchasing a new GSG-5 from your Website, are we able to take care of this over the phone? I take care of the transaction and then I decide to ask the magic question? Mr Caller; I know that the Sig factory is only twenty minutes up the road from us, but why us? Why does the Sig Factory want to purchase a gun from me, and why this specific gun? The answers I get back are, You are one of our local dealers and,,,,, Dissection from within our Engineering Dept Ok; this am while on my dealer act, this is what comes up....... Below is MSRP. Wholesale dealer is within a few bucks of the GSG-5 Carbines. Description: SIG SIG522001 552 22LR SEMIAUTO CARBINE NetPrc SSSRP:$520.01 My apologies if I'm late and this model is old news.. |

I reread the OP's "Description: SIG SIG522001 552 22LR SEMIAUTO CARBINE" and now understand the clone is a SIG522 of the SIG552. Right? And here is some info on the SIG552:

GSG makes the Sig Mosquito so it's kinda weird. I was thinking that aswell... Why would sig make their own rifle based on a GSG design if they contract with GSG for the mosquito? $500 is nothin to Sig so maybee they had heard all the success of the GSG and wanted to try one out with thoughts of a Sig version down the road. Just buying one locally and picking it up would be easier/faster than going through cross corporate requisition. < shrugg > |

Did some pokin around.
Zero evidence of a 522 in existence or being planned. MANY examples of "552" being miss-marked as "522". No pics, no blurbs from corporate or otherwise. Mauri MAY have produced an airsoft 556 that they called "522" but this seems more likely to be another "552" misquote. The website entries to sell 522s are quite odd and go nowhere. You would think if Sig of all folks were going to sell a 22 clone of thier 550 there would be a massive PR going on to promote it for pre-orders. Lastly "several months ago" is not nearly enough time to produce a gun, barely a prototype. I don't think it's BS, just a mistake made somewhere that took off. |

Thanks for the scoop, I didn't know that ATI was making the Mosquito... I have an e-mail in with the Sig rep, and as soon as I hear something worth posting I will post it here. A miniature 556 in 22LR would be sweet. 
Really nice plinker, I have three early model GSG-5's carbines with consecutive serial numbers unfired and tucked away. I have one GSG-5 that I have been shooting the crap out of. Shit, over 3000 rds and it is as reliable as a cheesy Ruger Mk II 22 pistol. ATI had definitely done a fantastic job with their gun and at a terrific price. |

Maybe a .22lr conversion upper is in the works?? I wonder if this rifle takes Ciener/Black Dog mags. |
| I learned about this new rifle from my Sig rep several weeks ago. He also confirmed I will be seeing this rifle at SHOT show. It is a 556 clone in 22lr. He also hinted that they are coming out with some Colt .380 governement and mustang clones as well. Interesting. |

What's the loop under the front sight base for? For the bayonet lug. Price mentioned was $550. Don't know if that's with or without the red dot sight or rear back up iron sight. Wow! That was the actual pic referenced earlier afterall. I am going to just throw a guess and say no way we'll see this as pictured for a dime under $899 or higher.
