| Getting ready to order my upper and lower partskit from Delton I'm planning on a flattop A-2 20" barrel . My ? is if I want to put a regular scope say of a 4x or 6x design and a med high mount will the front sight of the standard A2 type be in my field of view or will it be blurred out from the optics enough for me not to notice it ? Also whats your ideas odf a red dot type and having the a2 type front sight ? thanks for any help Joe |

Be sure to consider eye relief as well as height - the Picatinny rail on a flat-top may not let you mount the scope far enough forward for a comfortable position, especially in prone. I use an extended riser (1/2" high) made by Accuracy Speaks (available direct or from Brownell's) combined with standard-height rings. There are now a similar ones available from Compass Lake and White Oak, among others. This gives me an extra 4" of rail to let me mount a Leupold 6.5-20x50 LRT (a rather long scope), and gives me the option for an extra 15' of built-in elevation for long range work. For ranges up to 600 yards, a simple rail extender like YHM's <http://www.yhm.net/store/rails.html> should do the job for less money. I'm using Burris Signature Zee rings - they are inexpensive and work well, even though they don't have the macho look many seem to like. They use a floating plastic bushing to minimize stress on the scope tube and simplify installation, and offset bushings are available. Bushings with a 0.010" offset are included with 30 mm rings, and 0.010", 0.020" and 0.030" bushings can be purchased for 1" rings. They're inexpensive and work very well. I use them on my spacegun to mount a VX-III 6.5-20x50 LRT and have never had a problem with them. Removing and replacing the scope has never shifted the POI. |
| Not a big fan of mounting a scope on the carry handle. Cheak weld is horrible. Throws the ergonomics of a good rifle way off. If you are really wanting a scope just go with an A3. Up past 4 power you will not see the sight base. If you must have a carry handle get a detachable one and put it in the junk drawer where most of them end up any way. |

Love the A3 flat tops, very versital... There are "high" mount scope rings out there that will you above the FSB. Also they allow the use of your BUIS. When you search around for one, instead of looking at only tactical rings, look at hunting rifle monts (for like bold action deer rifles). I have one of my Rem 30.06 auto and pump action, works wonderfully. As for the red-dot, I have one on my A3 with standard FSB, works well. I use the scope like I would the BUIS, just look straight through all 3... Either way, good luck with the build, cant wait to see how it turns out! |
