Can I make A 9MM upper with any upper or do I need A dedicated/specialized upper?
Thanks.

You can use any Upper rec...Only difference btween 9mm and 5.56 rec is that the 5.56 has a hole for the gas tube,And a forward assist both which will be unused in the 9mm.............UNDERDOG

I'm not worried about the gas tube hole but any idea about filling the fa hole?
The only thing I can think of is installing A fa without the pawl(arm) so I don't scratch/gouge the BC but still fill the hole.
Mabey some JB weld to fill the hole.
Any ideas welcome.
Or just A slick side upper might be my best bet.
Thanks.

I'd go with the Slick side as well,...Seems to me your trying to build this on the Cheap so go with the best deal...If you find a FA upper just put a FA in the hole as you said.....UNDERDOG

Not so much "on the cheap" as I was thinking about hunting down A carbon fiber upper to go on A cav15 lower.
Ya know...A sulc (super ultra light carbine) :)
Just wondering if the uppers were diffrent for 9mm Vs 5.56.
Thanks for the info UNDERDOG.

Well, my CAV 15 w/ a ASA 9mm upper weights about 4-5lbs via the bathroom scale.  And that's with a 25rnd Uzi mag.
