I finally test fired my Newly assembled Stag 15L. I had the stock front sight exchanged for a YHM flip front sight. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b47/TFRamirez/YHMfrontflipsight.jpg?t=1196053065 Upon testing it, my rifle would not cycle the bolt. I had to manually pull the charging handle each time to eject the casing and load another round. This went on the whole 70 rounds while at the range. Like I said, this is a new assembly and I did not lube the rifle, bolt carrier prior to this shooting. The range officer there suggested I clean and properly lube the new gun. I spoke with other AR15 owners and they suggest there is a gas leak problem and check the FSB. I looked at my YHM flip up front sight and noticed there is a slight cant to the right (looking down the barrel and aligning it with the top rail). Is this enough to cause a gas leak? Is it easy to re-align the front sight just by un-screwing the bolts? I would like to check with you guys before I do something stupid. Please help! Thanks in advance, Ding |

Update: I re-aligned the FSB, cleaned and lubed the BCG. I went to the range and still the bolt doesn't cycle. During firing, the bolt doesn't even move. I called Stag and they wanted me to send the upper back to them for inspection. It went out second day air. I hope they can fix it. I really want to know what's wrong with it. |
No problem.
I have a hunch that’s what it will end up being. After lining up my YHM FSB, it actually sit’s a bit off of the barrel step. |

I did noticed when I removed the FSB off the barrel, that there was a mark on the barrel next to the barrel gas port hole towards the reciever. The mark was a black circular fouling which look like it came from the gas tube/FSB hole just above it. Looks like the remaining gas during firing in the reciever was venting the gas forward towards the FSB and hitting the barrel in back of the barrel gas port hole. That probably explains why there was carbon residue right off the FSB/gas tube connection, right on the exterior of the gas tube where it goes into the FSB. Dang! |

UPDATE: I just got it back from Stag. As suspected, it was the YHM FSB sitting back against the step of the barrel. They recommend it must be off the step by 0.05" if FF tubes are to be used. The tech support at STAG are first rate! They even sent a free cleaning kit with my upper. I sent my upper to them and got it back all within in 5 business days. WOW! Now that's service. Thanks STAG!!! |
Yep, that's how I was using it for the first 70 rounds while zeroing the scope. One shot and manually ejecting the shell. For future reference, I took a 0.05" allen wrench. It fits perfectly in the gap between the barrel step and the YHM FSB. I can use that if ever I need to disassemble the upper/barrel. |
Pretty BAD A$$
